The Superbowl of Sundays

Bob FranquizChurch

4:30AM – I’m wide awake. Mia is sound asleep. But I think it’s Easter that’s got me awake. This is the Superbowl of Sundays! It’s the most important Sunday of the year because it’s the day everyone stops to celebrate the fact that there’s an empty tomb. I believe God wants to rock our community with His message of love. I believe He wants to use CF in getting that message out. We sent out 80,000 postcards inviting our community to come celebrate Easter with us. We’ve sent out tons of e-vites through our website. We’ve given out countless personal … Read More

Odds and Ends

– My daughter is getting cuter by the day. I can’t wait to bring her to church on Sunday. Everyone is looking forward to seeing her and Carey. – My voice still isn’t 100%. I’m feeling OK, but not my normal “Bruce Willis in Unbreakable’ self. I need to get well before Sunday. – Chris has 2 posts that echo what I’ve been thinking lately (post 1) (post 2) – Bryon’s post on relevance is great. Plus, you’ve got to love the stash! I wish I had Oz Fox’s hair 🙂 – MMI had a great article on why Christians … Read More

Deeper Experience

Bob FranquizChurch

One of things I wrestle with as a Pastor and communicator is what to cut in my message prep. Like most Pastor/ Teachers, I have about 3 hours worth of stuff to share and most of it gets edited out to fit into a 40-45 minute message. So we decided to create a sheet each week for those that might want to delve a little deeper into a subject. We call it “The Deeper Experience” and it has 5 sections: Questions to ponder – these are some application based, but give opportunity for reflection. Scriptures to Consider – This will … Read More

I don’t feel so good…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Yesterday after church my throat started to hurt. By the time I woke up today, I felt terrible and I had no voice to speak of. Thankfully, Monday is my day off, so I have spent the entire day sleeping. To add insult to injury, I woke up just in time to watch the Red Sox get spanked by the Kansas City Royals. Yes, you read that correctly…the Royals. I think I feel worse emotionally watching this pathetic display of baseball. And I have no energy to yell at the TV. So I just have to sit and take it. … Read More

Book Review: Echoes of His Presence

Bob FranquizBooks

Echoes of His Presence by Ray Vander Laan was a great read. Part fiction, part teaching, but all good! Ray creates some stories about first century people to illustrate the passages of Scripture that he wants to highlight. It’s a very effective way to give the reader an understanding about Jewish culture and customs in the first Century. He has great insights into the world of the Bible and gives new light into familiar passages. It’s a very easy read and one that you’ll walk away from having gained a lot of background into the Scriptures. You can also get … Read More

Sunday Thoughts…

Bob FranquizChurch

So many things I’m thinking about on Sunday evening… – I had a great time talking with the reporter from the Miami Herald. The story is supposed to run on Easter Sunday. We’re going to follow up with a conversation during the week. – Funniest quote of the day: a new girl to our church said to me, “Has anyone told you that you sound like Jack Black?” My answer: “You’re not the first person who’s said that.” – The legend of the rent is way past due! – We finished our “Illusions” series today. I think it ended on … Read More

Guess Who’s Coming to…Church?

Bob FranquizChurch

We just found out that the Miami Herald is coming to do a story on our church. They’re taking the angle of churches meeting in portable facilities. They heard I was teaching a workshop at the National New Church Conference and they think it’s newsworthy. So they’ll be at church this Sunday (I know it’s April Fool’s, but this is no joke) taking photos of us transforming Cobb Theatres into a church. I’m looking forward to it. Although my first thought was, “What am I going to wear?”

Book Review: For Men Only

Bob FranquizBooks

For Men Only is a fantastic book! All married men need to read it and men that are hoping to “take a wife” someday need to read it as well. It’s a simple read. Written in guy language. And straightforward. For once, this book was the perfect amount of pages. I never felt as though they were dragging a subject out. Once they explained a subject, they pulled a Forrest Gump and said, “And that’s all I have to say about that.” If I could get every guy in my church to read this book, their marriages would be absolutely … Read More
