– It feels like every week the services on sunday keep going by faster. I mean I get there, the whirlwind of conversations, preaching, praying, meeting, greeting, praying, preaching… and then it’s over. I don’t remember Sunday mornings going by as fast as they have lately. Maybe I’m just getting old 🙂 – I still haven’t seen the channel 10 interview. People are coming out of the woodwork to tell me they saw it. My neighbors saw it. They thought it was the coolest thing ever! I’ll let you know… – Talked about God’s will today. I don’t know if … Read More
Focus
When we started CF, Carey and I didn’t have kids so we were able to put crazy hours in and it was OK. Since Mia has come into our lives things have changed. It means when I go home for the day, I’m done. I’m not checking e-mail or writing messages into the night (which was a pretty common practice back then). I’m being a husband and a father. What this has made me realize is that my time at the office is very precious. I have a certain amount of time to get a lot of things done. So … Read More
Missed it!
Well I told our whole church to watch channel 10 for the 11 O’clock news because the story about our church was on and I totally missed it! I absolutely forgot to watch it. Good going Bob 🙂 Anyway, if someone taped it, please let me know (not that I own a VCR), but I’d love to see it sometime. It did show me how I feel about this kind of stuff. When we first started our church, I would have not missed something like this for anything. Today, it doesn’t really matter all that much…
Set Your TiVo…
Our local channel 10 is doing a story on our church on Sunday. They interviewed me and a couple of people from our church about our style of ministry, the types of people we’re reaching, etc… The story is going to air this Sunday, June 24th @ 11PM.
What I learned about Church Planting on Sunday…
My buddy Bill invited me to their 2 year anniversary service in Hartford, CT. It was great! He and I co-taught the message (which is always fun) on the subject of why a person should go to church. Bill is a good communicator, a sharp leader, and a great Pastor. He’s got a good group of leaders around him. There’s no limit to what God can do here. It made me really think about church planting and guys who go to areas that are ridiculously saturated with churches. Do you know there are areas where there are zero churches reaching … Read More
What’s Your Plan?
At our all-staff meeting today, I spend some time with our staff talking about their own personal development. I tried to share some practices beyond our own spiritual disciplines that would help us continue to grow as Christian leaders. I have found that most leaders don’t really have a plan about growing as a leader, they just think it’s going to happen by accident. What it really comes down to is being intentional. If you are intentional about losing weight, you will. If you are intentional about graduating from college, you will. But personal growth and development doesn’t happen by … Read More
Watermark Review…
My buddy Bill LaMorey just read my book Watermark and reviewed it on his blog. It shouldn’t surprise you that Bill gave it a good review, seeing how Bill is one of my best friends. Anyway, you can read his review here. You can buy Watermark here. Or if you want to give these to people in your church who are thinking about baptism or being baptized, you can email me and I can get you a better deal than the Amazon price. Shameless promotion over…
Hey Mr. DJ…
Mark took our worship team to the next level this morning as Ivan, one of our new guys was added to the band as our resident DJ. It was awesome! I’m amazed at what adding another layer of music does. Plus, I was doing a message in Mark 3 on the Sabbath, so I had him come up and lay down some dope beats as I talked about the Sabbath being an opportunity to create rhythm in our lives. He started playing the opening beat to ‘Walk this way” and adding his own flavor to it. I grabbed the guitar … Read More
In case you missed it…
Here’s a few posts that rocked my world this week… – Bill’s thoughts on people needing to think things all the way through was great… – Tony’s penny pinching post was spot on… – Craig’s posts on developing leaders were great, but Part 1 and part 4 were my favorite… – Gary’s stuff on Disney was excellent… – Nancy Beach’s post of vision was fantastic… – Ben’s posts on “The Dip” have been very insightful… I hope you enjoy them as much as I did…
Why can’t we start here?
I was deeply saddened upon hearing about Dr. Falwell’s passing. He’s with Jesus and totally healed of whatever was once wrong in his body. For that, we can be thankful. What I am also glad about is the kind words that people are saying about him. People are talking about how he influenced them, prayed for them, and modeled integrity for them. Here’s my wish: why do we have to wait until someone is gone before we speak well of them? We slam people we disagree with and then when they go to be with Jesus, we remember they were … Read More
