I just finished “The Secret Message of Jesus” by Brian McLaren and it was fantastic! The purpose of the book is to explore what is the Gospel that Jesus preached and what it the kingdom of God. I am a big fan of Brian’s writings. I believe that he is certainly one of the best writers in the church today. His style is engaging, his thoughts are profound, and his topics are courageous. I literally underlined 60% of the sentences in this book. My favorite aspects of the book were his exploration into the political world that Jesus was born … Read More
20 Random Thoughts Friday…
Many thoughts swimming in my head today. Here they are: #1 – “The anger sharks are swimming in my head!” My first line reminded me of this movie quote. Anyone remember what it’s from? #2 – I’ve been listening to DOA by the Foo Fighters today. Great Song! #3 – I’m more than 50% done with my Easter message! – This is a first for me. I’m usually agonizing over it the week of. This year, I’m so excited about it I’m ready to explode! New series. New…Can’t say anymore! Must stop typinggggg! #4 – Speaking of Easter – This … Read More
The coolest gift ever!
I walked into the office this morning and found a square package sitting on my desk. I opened it and it was an autographed baseball signed by #33 Jason Varitek, captain of the Boston Red Sox. My buddy Tadd was kind enough to track Jason down (who attends his church by the way) and get him to autograph a baseball for me. Anyway, Tadd you’re awesome! Thank you so much for this great gift!
Origins Conference
Those that know me, know that I’m a huge Erwin McManus fan. I’ve read each of his books at least twice! But today I signed up for the Origins conference in LA in May. I’m really excited about seeing what they are doing there, getting some great ideas, and of course hanging in Los Angeles for a couple of days isn’t bad either!
Thoughts on Publishing… (Part 2)
This is part 2 of a post that I wrote a week ago. You may want to read part one before reading this. If you don’t, I won’t be hurt. When it comes to publishing, you’ve got basically 2 options: Self publish or shop your manuscript. Both have advantages and disadvantages. So I’ll list some of them and let you make your own decision: Advantages to shopping your manuscript and publishing through a traditional publisher: #1 – There is a perceived sense of being “Legit” when you have major publisher’s logo on the back of your book. #2 – You … Read More
New Bloggers…Kind of…
Well, they actually aren’t new bloggers. They are just new to my “cool blogs” section. I need to change that name. Can someone help me with a new name for that section of my blog? Here are a few people I’ve added. I’m sure many of you know about these guys. For the six of you that don’t, then you’re in for a treat. Steve McCoy – Steve is a fellow American Idol lover (that just sounded weird!) and keep me current on all the happenings of Calvinists throughout America. Mark Driscoll – Pastor of a cool church that’s modeling … Read More
Finally Getting Some Respect!
I just found out that I was quoted in the LA Times today! Check it out here.
Seeing Things Clearly
If you get a chance, could you pray for my wife Carey on Monday? She’s having laser eye surgery at 1PM. This is a great thing, but we’re both a little nervous. She’s nervous because of the surgery… I’m nervous because after Monday she’s going to know what I really look like! I told her the other day: “Honey, don’t be shocked when you really see me and realize that I’m not that good looking!” She’s going to know that I got the better end of this deal!
Weekly Mind Dump
Here’s a bunch of things I’m thinking about… Carey and I tried a new restaurant last night. It’s called the Grand Lux Cafe. It’s really good. It’s from the creators of the Cheesecake Factory. Carey and I rented Lord of War – Very good movie. It’s a little slow, but it’s a powerful message. I’m relieved – Our creative team nailed down our Easter Series. I’m really excited about it. I’ll post the graphics when they’re done. Bo Bice was lame on American Idol on Thursday Night! The song was weak. The performance was sub-par. How was this guy the … Read More
Sign of the Apocalypse?
Kevin Covais in the top 12? Are you kidding me? Are my eyes (And ears) deceiving me? How could America have voted for Kevin and not Gedeon? This is an outrage! Did I think Gedeon was going to win? No! My guess was that he would come in 3rd. Katherine would come in 2nd and Chris would win! At least that’s the way it’s supposed to be. This must be a sign of the Apocalypse. Friends, Kevin can’t sing! Can you see that kid on the cover of a CD? No, you can’t. Why? Because he can’t sing and he … Read More
