I am so excited about church this Sunday because we are having a special Communion service. We haven’t had Communion together as a church in a while, so I am really excited about all that our team has put together. The service is called “Encounter”, and we talking about how we can encounter God in the most unlikeliest of places. I can’t wait! I get like this when I’ve been on vacation for more than 4 days. But I’m realizing that what I’m feeling is how I should always feel when I think of experiencing Communion. That’s why we don’t … Read More
Top 5 Things I Love/Hate about Losing Weight
Here is my top 5 for this week. It’s a double top 5 (Which does not make it a top 10). It is just a top 5 from both perspectives: Top 5 Things I Love about losing weight: #5 – When reading about body types, not having to check off other and writing in “Snowman Shape”! #4 – Being able to fit into an airplane seat! #3 – Not having to “Suck in my gut” to get the airplane seat belt on because I refuse to ask for an extension! #2 – Feeling like I’ve done something right when I’ve … Read More

Delivering the Goods
First, let me say that I love Orlando! If I wasn’t committed to spending my entire life pastoring CCML I would more here! Anyway, I spent the afternoon with my wife at the Mall at Millenia. This has to be the best mall I have ever been to! There’s inspirational words written on columns that surround areas for sitting. The floor of these areas are a huge sun dial. It is a very impressive place (Plus, they have a P.F. Chang’s). But as I watched people walk by, many of them paid no attention to the exceptional shopping environment that … Read More
Weighing In
I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how I’ve been able, by God’s grace, to lose 70 pounds and get down to what I think is normal human size for a person of my height and build. So I’m going to give you the big secret to my weight loss: Ready? Here it is… Diet AND exercise! There was no magic shake, no anti-carb campaign; just making healthy choices with my meals and with my time. I can tell you that I have never felt better in my life. I stopped eating fast food completely, I cut out fried foods, … Read More
War of the Worlds
Yes, I’m chiming in a little late on this since everyone else has already blogged about this. I didn’t see the movie until last night. But I walked away from this very good movie with a perspective that not many others had: I think the aliens and I have a lot in common. Think about it: New York gets destroyed and Boston remains intact. It shows they hate the Yankees as much as I do…
Follow Me and I will make you…Judge Wapner?
I have been having this conversation with my friends as of late, I am coming to the sad conclusion that “Christians” are the most judgmental people on this planet. I put Christians in quotations because I’m not talking about serious Christ-followers who are denying themselves, taking up their cross daily. I’m talking about churchy people. These are the folks that love quoting the Bible out of context, love talking about the speck in their brother’s eye, and then usually don’t live what they’re selling. What I find interesting is that these people weren’t judgmental before they made a profession of … Read More
Am I Feeling the Message?
I am firm believer that if you don’t feel it, you can’t teach it! The best definition I’ve heard of preaching is "Truth through a personality." So when I walk up to the front, I’ve go to feel like the message I have to share is absolutely dire for people to hear! Here are some things I think about before opening my mouth that maybe you’ll find helpful: #1 – Do I really believe what I’m about to say? – Do I believe this message down to my bones? I can’t teach something just because someone else said and I … Read More

Here they are – the Top 5 Sporting Events I wish I had Attended: #5 – Game 6 of the 1986 World Series (The Buckner Game – I know it’s sick, but I feel if I saw it for myself it would make more sense to me) #4 – 1980 Winter Olympics Hockey game where the USA beat the USSR #3 – SuperBowl XXXVI to see the Patriots win their 1st Superbowl Ever! #2 – Game 6 of the 1975 World Series (Carlton Fisk’s Home Run is one of the greatest moments in sports history) And #1 – Game 4 … Read More
What Style of Church are You?
I talk to Pastors and they tell me what style of church they have: traditional, contemporary, Purpose-Driven, seeker-sensitive, etc… I’ve told our church that I figured out what type of church we are: we’re an “experimental church.” We just want to be a place where God can conduct experiments. That means some stuff we do is awesome and and innovative, but the downside is that some stuff we try makes your skin turn green and you develop a weird itch. The point is that as leaders we need to create a culture of change. The only way I know to … Read More
