I’ve been reading Culture Shift by Robert Lewis and Wayne Cordiero. The book is great so far. I read a couple of lines that really hit me. I wanted to share them with you. “When asked what’s distinctive about their (Church) culture, people in too many churches admit, “I don’t know.” Or worse, they define their church’s identity by cloning the latest program that’s hot on the direct mail or conference circuit. It’s easier to duplicate than to incarnate.” Powerful stuff! It’s making me think through what makes CCML unique and distinct. Maybe I’ll post about that soon. But while … Read More

Beam Me Up, Scotty!
I am a huge Star Trek fan! I used to watch the original series with my grandmother when I was a kid and I never stopped watching. I thought about that when I heard the news that James Doohan (Scotty) died today. There’s something that happens to me when I hear the news that someone I know or know or has died. I get this feeling that the clock is ticking on my life as well. It made me think about the church that I have the privilege of leading. There are people who are going to show up this … Read More
Lessons from the Chocolate Factory
Well, my wife and I went with some friends to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" this evening. First off: It was awesome! I never saw the original (I know – I already caught heat over this), so I had no expectations. In fact, I had very low expectations because I can’t stand Tim Burton as a director. I’ll give him props for Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands & Beetlejuice, but that’s as far as I go with him. But as I watched the movie, I saw several leadership principles at work…#1 – There’s No Success without a Successor … Read More
Revenge of the Sith in Digital
On my vacation to Orlando, I saw Star Wars:Episode III in full digital. Let me say, it’s like watching a totally different movie. There were only 3 theaters in Florida showing the movie in its’ full digital form, but the AMC at Downtown Disney was one of them. If you have a theater near you showing it, check it out. It’s amazing! Here is a listing the theatres showing it in digital.
Name that Movie
“You’re mine Bender. For 2 months I’ve gotcha!” It’s almost too easy, but I want to pay respect to one of the best High School movies ever made! Remember: No outside sources other than your mind. Also, not many have dared to take on the challenge of movie trivia from Friday. 2 have tried and both have gotten it wrong… Enjoy!
When Did You Know You were a Leader?
I think about how I got into Christian leadership and it is still kind of an enigma. I am a musician by trade and always thought my contribution to the kingdom of God would be through making music. However, here I am leading a church in Miami of all places! But as I look back through my life, I see these moments where a leader was emerging. I remember the first time I thought I was a leader. I was 16 years old and my friend Keith and I had just taken a job working for a landscaping company. I … Read More
I forgot to give props…
I forgot to give props to my beautiful and ever-creative wife, Carey who designed my blog logo. Being the cereal fanatic that I am, she created this “Alphabits-esque” bobfranquiz.com logo that I love. I hope you like it too. I was waiting to say something because when I put it up, only Macs could see it. (PC with problems…second verse, same as the first) But I checked a PC yesterday and it was visible. Anyway, I hope you like the logo. I love it and I love my wife for being an amazing, creative genius! (Ca-ching – that was the … Read More
