“We are the World”… Metal Style!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Does anyone remember this? My buddy Bill sent me this (I mention his name, so that if anyone gets mad they knew where to direct their anger). Highlights for me: Rare appearance my Adrian Smith and Dave Murray from Iron Maiden. Geoff Tate from Queensryche. George Lynch from Dokken. Ronnie James Dio belting out some vocals. And don’t forget, The Nuge. I’d like to go on record and say that I loved this song and thought is was way better than We are the World (Although I think Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen were awesome). check it out…

Who Moved My Cheese?

Bob FranquizBooks

2 of my friends recommended “Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson to me and were shocked that I hadn’t read it. So I picked up this little 100 page book and was totally impressed. What a great book with tremendous insight into how we react to change. As I read the book, I was thinking about the people in my life that are like the 2 mice and those that remind me of Hem and Haw. Then I gave some thought to who I was most like in this equation. If you are needing to change anything in your … Read More

Why I Love Apple

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Last week my Powerbook turned off and wouldn’t turn on. It was unplugged and running off battery power, so I plugged it in and the computer turned on. After a few tests, I realized the battery was bad. So I went down to my local Apple store here in Miami and sought to get my problem fixed. The line was long at the Genius Bar, so I hung out and made an appointment. Shortly after, I saw the store manager, Brian, whom I had gotten to know from my many trips to the store and he asked what was up … Read More

Amazon Prime

Bob FranquizUncategorized

After placing my most recent amazon.com order today, I started thinking back to the glory days. The days when I had a free trial of amazon prime, the amazing program that gives you free 2-day shipping and $3.99 overnight delivery. But it’s $79 a year and I’m just too cheap to pay that, so when the trial ran out, so did my fun. But here’s what I’m thinking: Amazon Prime should be available for free to all great Amazon.com customers. If you spend a certain amount per year on stuff, you should be rewarded by being given entrance into this … Read More

Just Walk Across the Room Book Review

Bob FranquizBooks

I try to read a couple of books a year on evangelism to keep evangelistic fires burning. Just Walk Across the Room by Bill Hybels did the trick. So simple. So practical. I’ve already told our folks to get this book for our bookstore. This book needs to get into people’s hands. It reminded me of the difference we can make, even in the most mundane of situations. Bill outlines easy steps to creating moments to share our faith in everyday conversation and using our own story. We need more tools like this and less of the formulaic stuff.

Going Live…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

We’re doing a redesign of our website that should be up in the next month. One of things that’s important to me is that the website be “Live” when you go live. Too many times we put up a new site 1/2 baked and lose the impact of the new look because of the infamous “under construction” or “Coming soon” text. My advice: don’t change over until your site is done. That way, people won’t miss the old site. They’ll just love the new one.

Maybe this is why the Yankees can’t win

Bob FranquizUncategorized

This from espn.com: With the hiring of Piniella, it is understood that the Cubs will expand their payroll, which was close to $100 million in 2006. Depending on how much they want to spend, the Cubs are one of the few teams capable of taking on (Alex) Rodriguez’s salary. He is owed $95 million for the remaining four years of the landmark 10-year, $252 million deal, he signed with Texas. The Yankees are responsible for paying $66.6 million; the Rangers are paying the other $28.4 million. Need I say more?
