The Perfect Gift?

Carey said she knew what she was getting me for my birthday. Then she showed me the ad. It’s awesome! Kiss Cologne! The ad had a sample. It smells horrible. I’m under the impression that it’s going to take more than one spray of this before they’re be calling you “Dr. Love”.

Tipping Etiquette

Bob FranquizUncategorized

OK, let me first say that I’m a 20% tipper when I go to eat at a restaurant. I’m also a generous tipper when someone delivers food to my house (I used to do this for a living when I was in Bible College, so I feel their pain). But here’s the gray area for me: Do you tip when you get curbside service at Outback (or another place that offers a similar type of service)? 2nd question: Do you tip when you have to go inside the restaurant and pick the food up at the bar? Help me Obi-Wan … Read More

A Great Time

Bob FranquizLeadership

Mark, John, and I drove up to West Palm Beach on Friday to attend a Nelson Searcy seminar. Nelson’s stuff on growth barriers was great (you can order it here), but we went to lunch with Nelson afterwards. I had never met Nelson before our lunch and I was so impressed that he was the real deal. He’s a cool guy that loves Jesus and the church. After our conversation, I’m even more excited about Nelson coming to teach at our Momentum Conference. Nelson’s church is running over 1,000 a weekend and they’re setting up and tearing down every week. … Read More

The Tigers in the World Series! Can you say absolute domination? The A’s didn’t even stand a chance. Quite honestly, this is what I thought would happen to them against the Twins. But I’m happy for the Tigers. 13 straight losing seasons. The last couple of seasons have been no picnic either. I don’t think either NL team has a chance against the Tigers. Then again I picked every team that got eliminated, so what do I know?

Spotlight…The Soundtrack

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Music has been a huge part of my life since I was 12 and I saw Motley Crue’s “Looks that Kill” video on this new station called MTV (Believe it or not, they played music videos back then). Well, after being in 2 successful bands and having been a musician for half of my life, songs continue to inspire and influence me greatly. With every series I teach, I feel that there are certain songs that either resonate with me or open a creative door for me in the preparation process. Our latest series through Colossians called “Spotlight” is no … Read More

People Need Hope

Bob FranquizTeaching

This link from the Catalyst blog really got me thinking today about how we as Pastors should teach. The number of movies with morally uplifting content have become the more popular films over the last seven years and are increasing in popularity with each passing year. What does this tell me? It tells me that people need hope. People need to be uplifted. People need reality, but to know that there’s a solution to the problem. I hear too many messages (and unfortunately taught too many) that just make people feel like crap. There’s something to that whole “Speak the … Read More

I had a great time in a meeting and at dinner with Bill LaMorey, who is not only planting a great church in Connecticut, but he’s also one of my best friends. As a Senior/ Lead Pastor, there are very few people you can really be yourself with. That doesn’t mean you’re fake with everyone else. It’s simply that you can’t confide in everyone. Bill has been one of those people in my life that I can talk to and be real with. I think that I’ve been able to be that for him as well (I think?). But as … Read More

John Mayer comes to Town

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just got home from the John Mayer/ Sheryl Crow concert. JM was out of control! Sheryl Crow was… actually, I have no idea. I left once John Mayer was done. The seats were amazing. We were about 20 rows back. One of the deacons in our church is in the JM fan club (This should tell you a bit about our church) and she hooked it up and was able to buy tickets a week before everyone else could. I saw John Mayer a couple of years ago and he was amazing, but this time he’s shown how much … Read More

Reading the Right Numbers

Bob FranquizChurch

One of the things that I’ve had to learn the hard way is to not live week to week when it comes to the life of our church. This will drive you insane. If your attendance fluctuates (and everyone’s does), then you will go from feeling like a success to failure in the course of 7 days. There are ways to monitor your progress, but one week to the next is usually not the best one. Here’s a couple of questions I ask: – Where were we last year at this time? This will give you a bigger picture into … Read More
