The Pennant Race heats up!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

There’s 7 games to go and the Red Sox and Yankees are tied for the lead in the American League East.  Oh, and they play each other this weekend for the last 3 games of the season!  So here’s the question: who wins it?  And by how many games?  Let’s see who gets it right… I’ll tell you what I think once I hear from you (you might be surprised)… By the way, this is the stuff that makes Baseball America’s pastime. There’s no better sport on the planet! Update: I just finished watching the game today (saturday 10/1) and … Read More

Field of Dreams

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I had the opportunity to go to Turner Field last night.  Let me say, it was amazing!  Ted Turner didn’t spare any expense building this state of the art baseball facility.  The owner of the Marlins should take note on how to build a baseball park that is conducive for baseball.  American Idol runner-up Diana DeGarmo sang the National anthem.  It was good.  The Braves won and it’s always a good thing when the home team wins.  I know this doesn’t help the Marlins, but what can I say? I got swept up in the moment.  Plus, John Smoltz pitched … Read More

The Red Sox in Miami in 2006!!!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

You read it here first!  According to my sources (The Boston Globe), the Red Sox will play a 3 game series during interleague play at Dolphin Stadium (10 minutes from my house) on June 30-July 2.  If anyone is interested as to where I will be ALL THREE DAYS, you can find me there.  I can’t wait!  There’s only 11 months to go!  Go Sox!!!!

Can’t Catch a Break!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

So I went to see the Marlin’s tonight. The game was great. The seats were great (Thanks Mike), and the Marlin’s won! But it eluded me again: catching a baseball. I am a hopeless optimist (Is that an oxymoron?) at the beginning of a game. I firmly believe that “Tonight’s my night” and I’m finally going to catch one. Yet this quest has become like Ahab’s obsession with catching Moby Dick, or Monty Python’s crew finding the Holy Grail (“What else floats?” “Very small rocks!”). But it hasn’t happened yet. While I can deal with that most of the time, … Read More

World Series Predictions – American League

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Last week I made my prediction that it would me the Florida Marlins representing the National League in the World Series. Now I’d like to add my thoughts about who I believe the American League representative to be. A.L. East – With the Orioles spinning out of control (Which is what I suspected), they will be in 3rd place before too long, which is where they will end the season. Toronto has made a good run, but the fire sale will begin shortly because they are not going to be able to contend this year anyway. So why not trade … Read More

2 out of 3 ain’t bad!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Yes that’s right, I just quoted Meatloaf! I never thought I’d ever use that sentence. But my weekend prediction was right. The Red Sox took 2 out of 3 from the Yankees in the Bronx (That’s gotta sting)! But I feel great since the Red Sox out hit the Yankees 43 to 14 over the last 2 games. That’s brutal! The Sox have proved why they are the World Champions ( I love how that sounds)!

I feel a lot better today

Today game made me feel much better. The 26 hit assault by the Sox lead to a glorious outcome. Final score: Red Sox 17 Yankees 1 It’s days like these that it feels great to be alive!

Rumble in the Bronx

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Why won’t anyone listen to me? I scream at the TV, but they can’t hear me. I yell, “Alan Embree shouldn’t pitch to right handed batters.” The next pitch Embree threw to Gary Sheffield was rocketed into the left field stands for a 2-run home run. The problem is, Alan Embree did this 2 nights ago in Toronto! Hello! Is anyone home? I believe the definition of insanity is doing the same thing twice and expecting different results! I know it’s only a game. And I know they won the World series last year. That’s what I keep telling myself: … Read More

Weekend Prediction

Bob FranquizUncategorized

The Red Sox vs. the Yankees – The ultimate in good against evil. It’s moments before the first pitch, so here’s my prediction: The Red sox take 2 out of 3 this weekend from the evil empire in the Bronx zoo. Go Sox!
