What a Night!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Carey agreed to attend 1 baseball game while we wee out here in So. Cal, so we went to see the Angels and the Orioles last night. The game was amazing! First off, they were the 2nd best seats I’ve ever sat in (The best being a Patriot’s Day Red Sox game where I sat on the front row on the first base line right behind the Red Sox dugout when I was 9). We got 3rd row seats from a scalper, or shall I say “Ticket Broker” for less than 1/2 price of face value. I love the haggling … Read More

Walk Off!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

If you’re not aware, today is Patriots’ Day in the state of Massachusetts. In Boston, today is also the day that the Boston marathon is run. Because of that, the Red Sox always play an early game (earliest in baseball – 11:05AM). The second time I went to Fenway Park was on Patriots’ Day. I had the best seats I’ve ever sat in (1st row, right behind the Red Sox dugout). Anyway, they lost that day. But the Patriots’ Day game has always been special to me. My world stops so I can watch this early game every year. But … Read More

Why Do we Love Rules so Much?

Bob FranquizUncategorized

The Florida Marlins, having shaved mot of their payroll from last year have decided that it’s time for all facial hair to be shaved.  This article from the Boston Herald reveals that new Marlins manager Joe Girardi (An Ex-Yankee for those keeping score at home) says he’s going to do what is part of Yankee "Tradition" and allow facial hair (Actually, you can have a mustache on the Yankees, but that’s it).  Is this not the most stupid rule ever?  Not just because I’ve sported a goatee or beard since I was 18, but why impose rules that aren’t going … Read More

Can you smell it?

The Superbowl means 1 thing to me (Especially when the Pats aren’t in it): it means that pitchers and catchers report for spring training in 11 days! Yes, sports fans, it means that in Florida there will be Spring Training Baseball in less than 1 month! Add the World Baseball Classic into the mix and you’ve got life as it should be! Life isn’t the same during the baseball off-season. There’s only so many times I can watch my 2 DVD’s of the 2004 Baseball season (Well, that’s not really true). But the point is, I can’t wait until this … Read More

The streak is over!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I know I have absolutely NO RIGHT to gripe about the fact that my Patriots lost tonight, but I’m still bummed out about it. I became a Patriots fan as a young kid growing up in Boston in the early 80’s when Steve Grogan was still the QB. I remember the infamous pounding the Pats took when they went to the 1985 Superbowl and got run over by the Bears. I watched in dismay when they lost to the Packers in 1996. But winning 3 out of the last 4 Superbowls has been amazing. So it’s over. I don’t even … Read More

Bob FranquizUncategorized

It’s down to 2 teams: The Astros and the White Sox. So here’s my question: Who is going to win it all this year? Post your prediction…The winner and in how many games. My prediction: The White Sox win in 6 games…(Sorry Astros fans. But they aren’t going to score any runs against the White sox starting pitching)

The Night of the Living Dead

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Last night marked the 1-year anniversary of the beginning of the Red Sox’s historic comeback last year. Down 3 games to 0 against the source of all evil Yankees, they won it in dramatic fashion. From Dave Roberts’ stolen base in the 9th inning and Bill Mueller’s game tying base hit off of Mariano Rivera to then the homer of all homers by David Ortiz to win it in the 12th inning! This night one year ago reminded me why I have stuck with this team for my entire life. One year ago, life was good and it would only … Read More
