Bookworm…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just can’t get enough of being in a bookstore. I love it! I used to work in a Christian bookstore and I loved it. I just love being around books. Probably because it makes me feel smarter than I am. But I love finding out about a great author and reading everything he’s read. It was weird going into a bookstore for the first time and seeing my own book on the shelf. I was right next to Gayle Erwin on the shelf. Good company to be in. I like Amazon.com and use them for some stuff, but for … Read More

Book Review: The Story We Find Ourselves In

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just finished Brian Mclaren’s book, "The Story We Find Ourselves In".  In a word, "Awesome!"  Like any book, I didn’t agree with everything written in it.  Then again, my wife asked me a while back, "Is there a book outside of the Bible that you agree with completely?"  I said, "Yes.  This one."  And that one, I’m not totally sure of!  But I thought his views on creation were interesting and provocative to say the least.  I loved the idea of the 7 episodes of our story (Which is similar to what I was taught in Bible College and … Read More

Stuff floating around in my head…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I’ve got a bunch of stuff floating around in my head and I wasn’t sure what to post, so here’s everything… #1 – I have to slow down – I had to check my Treo to see when Carey and I could schedule a lunch together. That’s NOT cool.  It starts today.  I’m scaling back my life a bit.  #2 – I’m almost done with "The Story we find ourselves in" by Brian Mclaren.  Phenomenal!  #3 – I have Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday’s episodes on American idol on my TiVo that I still haven’t watched!  I’m going to try to … Read More

Indescribable Tour Described!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

The tour is called, ‘Indescribable‘, but I’m going to describe it right now.  I went to see Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, and Louie Giglio on Saturday.  While I’m normally not out late on Saturday nights (I have this thing on Sunday mornings), I made an exception.  The show was great!  Tomlin played a couple of songs to get things going.  Then Matt played 6 or 7 songs.  Then Louie gave a message that was very good (a little too long, but good).  Then Tomlin came back out and played for about another hour.  All in all, I had a great … Read More

Book Review: The Last Word and the Word After That

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just finished "The Last Word and the Word after That" (Yes I think I’m on a kick of some sort) by Brian Mclaren.  This is part 3 of his "A New Kind of Christian" trilogy.  I thought the book was amazing!  While, the book is fictional, it tries to create some discussion about a few different subjects.  The main topic is hell.  I found the book eye opening, refreshing, and challenging.  I think McLaren is onto something in his writing.  He challenges us to think, but he’s not going to just lay out the answers.  Instead, he’s going to … Read More

Awesome Valentine’s Gift!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Carey made me an awesome Valentine’s Day gift this year. Due to my obsession with the movie “School of Rock”, she “ripped” the movie with her Powerbook, cut a few scenes, and then formatted them to play on my ipod video! So I have 4 songs from the movie to choose from no matter where I am. It’s awesome. I’ve been walking around the house this week shouting at the top of my lungs, “And the legend of the rent, was way hardcore!”

Book Signing!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

The kind folks over at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale have invited me to do a book signing at their bookstore on Wednesday, March 1st from 5PM – 9PM for my book "elements".  This is a first for me, so I’m really excited about it.  I’m looking forward to meeting some people and talking about the book.  I’m also hoping to talk to some people who have already read the book.  I was there yesterday for a moment and talked to 2 people who had read the book and said they really enjoyed it (then again, people don’t usually walk up … Read More

Tickets: The good news and the bad news

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just ordered my tickets for the Chris Tomlin concert on 2/18.  I’m lookng forward it. I got pretty good seats for buying them a week before the show.  In other ticket-related news, Marlins tickets went on sale today and I was planning on buying tickets for 3 games (June 30, July 1&2), but I did not.  Why?  Because all that was left was junk.  And these are the days that the Red Sox are coming to town.  I’m upset.  Now, this simply means that I will need to buy good seats from a "Ticket broker" before the game.  But … Read More

Book Review: Adventures in Missing the Point

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just finished reading "Adventures in Missing the Point" by Brian McLaren and Tony Campolo.   Let me first say, "WOW!"  I loved this book. While I didn’t agree with everything written, I appreciated several things about it.  Here’s a couple:    #1 – Permission to think, granted – I appreciate the fact that the authors forced me to think.  The book was written in a responsive format where one person would write the chapter and then the other would respond to what the first wrote.  What I love is that they didn’t even agree with each other on some issues, … Read More

9 Years…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

9 years ago today I married my wife Carey. It was the best day of my life. Today I can truly say that I am more in love with her than I was the day we got married. Carey, I love you… “So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.” (Genesis 29:20)
