I just finished Brian Mclaren’s book, "The Story We Find Ourselves In". In a word, "Awesome!" Like any book, I didn’t agree with everything written in it. Then again, my wife asked me a while back, "Is there a book outside of the Bible that you agree with completely?" I said, "Yes. This one." And that one, I’m not totally sure of!
But I thought his views on creation were interesting and provocative to say the least. I loved the idea of the 7 episodes of our story (Which is similar to what I was taught in Bible College and have taught since). But I felt like he told the story with much more color that I had ever heard it or told it.
This book is the middle book of a trilogy. I read "A New Kind of Christian", then the final installment of the trilogy "The Last Word and the Word after that." So reading this one last is like watching "Star Wars" (Episode 4), then watching "Return of the Jedi", and now catching "The Empire Strikes Back." I’ve always found his book interesting because they force me to think and look at waht I believe from a new perspective. I told a friend this recently, "Brian still gets me to the same place, he just takes me on a new journey to get there." I really appreciate that…
In other related news, W Publishing just sent me an advance copy of Brian’s soon-to-be-released book, "The Seceret Message of Jesus." They asked that I review it on my blog, which I am happy to do. It felt like Christmas when I got the book in the mail! I’ll let you know how it is…
