Several things swimming my head today. Here they are… #1 – I saw Nacho Libro on Monday. I was kind of disappointed. I think it was the director. It couldn’t be Jack Black. Why? Because Jack Black is one of the funniest people on the planet. #2 – I have listened to the new John Mayer song at least 150 times since his started streaming it from his website. #3 – I’m loving teaching our new series “crash.” We’re going through the book of Daniel. Its’ been fun. #4 – EVen though I didn’t love Nacho Libre, I have been … Read More
Congratulations Heat!
Who would have thought that the Heat would have come back from 0-2 to win 4 in a row? Miami is officially being renamed “Wade-County” for the MVP! Awesome! I gave our church a hard time on Sunday saying that Miami would lose in 7 games. I was kidding, but they’ll be the ones giving me the hard time this Sunday! For the record, the Heat is my second favorite team next to my childhood team, the Celtics! From a kid who grew up in the Larry Bird era in Boston, congratulations to the Heat!
Strange Dichotomy
I’ve been totally blessed listening to this years’ Calvary Chapel Senior Pastor’s conference. The theme is “God’s Continuing Work Through His Church.” Basically, each speaker is telling their story of how God worked in their lives and lessons they’ve learned. Great stuff! I’m about 1/2 way through the sessions and here’s the 2 consistent themes I’ve heard throughout: #1 – God is faithful – It’s a fact and a great reminder! #2 – God works differently every time – Every story the Pastors told featured God leading the Pastor and leaders to do something different at each stage of the … Read More
Be Known for What You Love
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve heard so much negativity as of late by people (Some church leaders, others not) about just about every ministry and church leader I know. I for one, am totally over it. I’ve decided that I want to be known for what and Who I love, not only what I stand against. Before you get bent out of shape citing the need to be Bereans, a watchman, and a workman who needeth not be ashamed (Did you like my King James?), let me say that I understand the need for apologetics, orthodoxy, … Read More
The Drought is Over! There’s New John Mayer Music!
I’ll tell you this, this day couldn’t come soon enough. John Mayer has announced the release date of his new Album “Continuum.” It comes out 9.12.06. He’ll be in West Palm Beach Amphitheater on October 11th! But John is streaming the first single from the album on his website. The song is called, “Waiting on the world to Change.” It’s great! I’ve listened to it about 20 times by now. It’s on an infinite loop. Best line of the song: “One day our generation is going to rule the population…” I love this guy’s music, his unique outlook on life, … Read More
DVD Arrival
I just got my DVD’s of the Calvary Chapel Senior Pastor’s Conference (By the way, mad props to the people at The Word for Today for getting them out to me so quickly). I wasn’t able to attend this year, but I’m looking forward to checking them out and hearing for myself all the good stuff that my friends were telling me about.
Book Review: Chazown
I just finished reading Chazown: A Different Way to See Your Life by Craig Groeschel from Life Church and let me say: Awesome! This book was so needed. As I was reading it, I said to myself, “I need to buy a copy of this book for every person in our church!” That’s how good this book is. The main idea is that God has a very specific Chazown (Vision) for your life. The brilliance of this book is in Craig’s ability to walk you though a process of discovery, so when you finish the book you have a real … Read More
The People You Work With
I was leaving the office this evening and I was overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude for the people I get to work with at Calvary Fellowship. These people love the church as much as I do, work as hard as I do, and do it with joy. I’m blown away by their dedication and commitment to the Lord and to the church. The thing is, you can pay someone to show up, but you can’t pay someone to care. These folks care. I think part of the reason their commitment level is so high is because they all were … Read More
Inside the Mind of a Visitor…
I’ve heard people say this. I’ve said it. But today I want to ask the question, “Is this true?” Do people really decide whether or not they are going to attend your church within the first 5,7, or 10 minutes? Are we building this theory based on comments that people say like, “I knew from the moment I walked in that this place was home!” Or, “I knew I was never coming back based on the fact that the place looked like a disaster!” I don’t know. I think this theory should be tested by having the worst band in … Read More
You’re Only as Strong as Your Bench
As the New York Yankees are learning this season, now that they have some star players out for extended periods of time, that a team is only as strong as their bench. Every team and every church has a few star players, but what about when these people are out? Can the church still thrive without the All-Stars? I’ve been thinking about this since I was out for 2 weekends and then Mark, our Worship Leader has been out for the last 2 weekends. It has made me appreciate that we have some depth. We’ve got gifted teachers who can … Read More
