Baptism Podcast

Bob FranquizChurch

A few months ago I recorded a podcast for Church Leader Insights on the subject of baptism and overcoming the barriers that people put up to baptism. It’s posted on their site as the featured podcast this month. You can check it out here

How did you get here?

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I was checking my stats last night (something I rarely do) and saw that google was the referring address. But the searches that people made to get here were what made me laugh: #1 – “Bob Franquiz” – kind of weird that people are googling my name (I thought I was only one that googled my name 🙂 #2 – “Tipping Etiquette for curbside service” (this made me laugh out loud!) If anyone’s got a definitive answer on this, I’d love to hear it. Here are some words of wisdom on the subject: “Why tip someone for a job I’m … Read More

Sunday Stuff…

Bob FranquizChurch

– Today was great! I always enjoy teaching Mother’s Day service. – My favorite part is acknowledging those that are there because their mom dragged them 🙂 – We were up in attendance (always a plus!) – We did have a few cell phones go off at the 1st service. My only problem was when 1 person answered the phone. I stopped and stared the guy down until he hung up. It was awkward to say the least. – We did Mother’s Day portraits for every family. This was definitely the nicest I’ve seen our folks dressed up in quite … Read More

Out of space!

Bob FranquizBooks

I’ve got 5 bookcases in my office… and they’re completely packed. The bookcases at home… packed. 5 boxes in my garage… packed full of boxes. Not sure where to go from here. I think the staff is going to have to start keeping some of my books in their offices 🙂

Book Review: The Ultimate Sales Machine

Bob FranquizBooks

While the title isn’t something that would draw me to the book, “The Ultimate Sales Machine” was a fantastic book! In it, the author shares 12 strategies to make your company more effective, and the parallels to church are considerable. Hands down, the best chapter of the book was the one on hiring. I really enjoyed the questions that he asks (I’ll be asking them as well) and the reason behind the questions. If you’re a Lead Pastor, you need to buy this book. Here’s a few great quotes to get you going: – “Take time to sharpen your skills, … Read More

New Series on Sunday

Bob FranquizTeaching

I’m so excited about teaching this series for the next 4 weeks. There is so much confusion inside and outside the church about God speaking. Does God still speak? How can we know it’s really Him? How can I recognize God’s voice from my own? All of these questions and more will be answered starting this Sunday!

3 Quick Hits

– Since we went to 3 services, I’ve had a problem with my voice. My the 3rd service, my voice was wasted. But I picked this stuff called Vocalzone called really helped me. I tried it for the 1st time this past Sunday and when I was done with the 3rd service, I felt like I could do 3 more! – My buddy Nelson just put out a 30 page report on church systems. I had a chance to read it earlier this week and it’s great. Also, it’s free! Here’s the link – On June 20th, I’ll be teaching … Read More

Book Review: Vintage Jesus

Bob FranquizBooks

I’ve always enjoyed reading Mark Driscoll’s books and Vintage Jesus is no exception. It’s filled with funny pop culture references and great theology (a mix that’s rarely seen). My favorite parts of the book were the Q & A sections after each chapter. That had rich information for new believers and old saints alike. I got done reading it and was thankful that there’s a great book available to give to people who have questions about Jesus. It a very easy to read book. Personal favorites were the chapter on the cross and the chapter on the Jesus’ divinity. I … Read More

Sunday Stuff…

– Today was absolutely amazing! – We finished our “I AM” series with what I think was the best message of the lot. – I taught on YHWH-Rapha (I am the God who heals you) – wow! – I cut the message short and we gave people the opportunity to come forward and be anointed with oil for healing. It was amazing! – We had communion elements available as well for anyone who wanted to come forward and partake. We normally serve communion, but this was the first time we invited people to come forward for communion. – I felt … Read More

There were some great posts this week. Here’s a few just in case you missed them: – My friend Bill had a great series of posts about preaching here, here, and here – My friend Nelson had a great post on how to read faster – Ben’s post about surveys was good. (I haven’t totally discounted surveys, but it’s a good reminder to not lead your organization based solely on surveys) – I really like Tim’s job description of a campus Pastor here – Craig’s post on preaching was great! Happy reading!
