MTV Video Music Awards Review
I have to tell you, since I was watching the Video Music Awards, this year was one of the weakest lineups I’ve seen. I remember the year Metallica opened the show (that was a great year) or the year Blink 182 closed things out. But this year was kind of lame. I was wondering, where were the Foo Fighters who have a new album that’s selling well; where was Jason Mraz; where was Dave Matthews; where was Switchfoot who have a new album coming out next month? I’m a hip hop fan, but this was a bit too much for … Read More
Katrina and the Waves…
Well, in case you were wondering…we’re still alive! In fact, we didn’t even lose power. That’s not the case for some of our staff. We’ve got a couple of guys with power out and some flooding. But all in all, we’re OK. I did suffer a loss…my BBQ grill! I woke up this morning and my grill was in the lake behind my house. I guess it was a burial at sea. Perhaps the fish in the lake knew how many of their comrades had been grilled there. It is a loss we will mourn. The picture is a tree … Read More
Beam Me up Scotty!
I had a great time with my new friend Scott Hodge and his lovely wife Amanda today. We are both at the Drive conference this week and we hooked up for lunch. I am amazed at what God is doing in other churches and how he is using unique leaders to change this world. It’s awesome to be part of it. Scott is the Lead Pastor of Orchard Valley Community Church in Aurora, IL. We had a great time talking about church, movies, and Christian Heavy Metal bands. He’s a cool guy that is doing a great work reaching unchurched … Read More
Field of Dreams
I had the opportunity to go to Turner Field last night. Let me say, it was amazing! Ted Turner didn’t spare any expense building this state of the art baseball facility. The owner of the Marlins should take note on how to build a baseball park that is conducive for baseball. American Idol runner-up Diana DeGarmo sang the National anthem. It was good. The Braves won and it’s always a good thing when the home team wins. I know this doesn’t help the Marlins, but what can I say? I got swept up in the moment. Plus, John Smoltz pitched … Read More
Book Review: Buzzmarketing
I just finished Buzzmarketing by Mark Hughes last night and here’s my review: AWESOME!!! This book was not only extremely informative, it was a very fun read. If you want to know why some brands get noticed and others don’t, this is the book to buy. It’s packed with fascinating stories about Apple, Mini, VW, Pepsi, Coke, Doubletree, and more. You will not regret buying this book if you are looking to get people to talk about your organization, church, yourself, whatever. It’s great stuff.
Name that Movie
(Remember, no outside helps) ¨There can be only one!¨ Enjoy…
Book Review: The Tipping Point
I just got done reading (Actually listening) to "the Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell. The book was great. The book is written for business and marketing leaders but the applications for church leaders are great as well. What causes some churches to explode with growth and others to stagnate? How can 2 churches have a similar style of ministry and get totally different results? The answer according to Gladwell is 3 key issues: context, presentation, and people. Here’s a couple of take aways I got: Context is the world we live in. What is the context that people see, feel, … Read More
The Red Sox in Miami in 2006!!!

If anyone is interested as to where I will be ALL THREE DAYS, you can find me there. I can’t wait! There’s only 11 months to go! Go Sox!!!!
Top 5 Baseball Movies of All-Time!
I have a theory…that there has never been a bad baseball movie. So I decided to share my top 5 favorite baseball movies of all-time: #5 – Mr. Baseball (I’m a huge Tom Selleck fan!) #4 – Major League (How can you not love Willie Mays Hayes and crew?) #3 – Field of Dreams ("If you build it, they will come" – One of the most classic movie lines ever!) #2 – The Natural (It’s hard to put this movie at number 2 because I’ve never been able to watch this movie and not cry. Roy Hobbs is one of … Read More
