How do You Gauge a Church’s Health?

Bob FranquizChurch

Since starting Calvary Fellowship almost 10 years ago I have tried to focus on the health of the church rather than only growth. Why? Because all healthy things grow. So if I can lead well, then the natural outflow of that will be a church that's growing and developing as it should.  The question is, what should I focus on? I believe there are 7 pillars that makes a church healthy. I see them like gauges on the dashboard. You check the gauges to make sure the car is running correctly. If the car stalls out, one of those gauges … Read More

– Great day at Calvary! – I taught Ephesians 4:17-32. Q and A: Making Membership Matter

Bob FranquizChurch

This question comes in several forms, but it usually boils down to, "Why does membership matter?" More than anything, membership is about 3 things:  1. Letting people know who you are as a church 2. Seeing if they align with where you're headed 3. Establishing a baseline of what it means to be committed at your church Your membership class should deal with these 3 issues in depth and then your membership follow up should be checking to make sure all of your members are fulfilling the covenant you agreed on.   If you don't do these things, them membership … Read More

– Awesome day at Calvary! – I was out of the pulpit for a month, but it was great to be back.  – I think I'm only out of the pulpit 4 more times before the end of the year. – I taught Ephesians 4:1-6. Talked about the 5 characteristics of a mature walk – We also shared that we are moving from our Miami Lakes campus. The school we meet in doesn't want a church meeting there anymore, so we're moving everyone to our Miramar campus.  – The move was very well received. People are pretty excited about it.  … Read More

Our Most Important Stewardship

Bob FranquizChurch

Most of us think of money when we hear the term stewardship. But stewardship applies to all areas of life and ministry.  I believe that everything changes when we realize that our greatest stewardship is the stewardship of people; specifically, the stewardship of new believers that God adds to the church.   Too often, God brings people to a church and because there's no system or intentionality to follow with those who take significant steps of faith, they fall through the cracks. We need to work hard to make sure no one falls through the cracks. To accomplish this goal it … Read More

– Great day at Calvary! I didn't teach. Instead, I led worship at all the services.  – We do this once a year. We call it, "Bizzaro Sunday" where I lead worship and Mark Rodriguez (our Worship Pastor) teaches the message.  – Mark is a great teacher and today was no exception. He taught Ephesians 2:11-3:21.  – For those interested, my worship set was:  1. You Deserve (Hillsong United) 2. No Reason to Hide (Hillsong United) 3. Made to Worship (Chris Tomlin) 4. Tear Down These Walls (Hillsong United) – Yes, I really liked the last United album 🙂 – I'm looking … Read More

Pseudo Sunday Stuff…

Bob FranquizChurch

– I was supposed to teach at Riverbank Church today in Lebanon, NH. My friend Chris Goeppner is the Pastor and is doing a fantastic job! – Unfortunately, on our way to Lebanon, NH my son Alexander started having major abdominal pain that forced us to take him to the ER in Concord, NH.  – Everything turned out to be OK, but it was quite a scare for us. Thus, we thought it was prudent to return to Boston and allow him to take it easy on Sunday.  – So I didn't teach anywhere or attend anywhere on Sunday.  – … Read More

Q and A: Expositional Preaching to the Unchurched

Bob FranquizChurch

"Bob, can you talk about how you teach expositionally and still reach unchurched people?" First, great question! This question hits on 2 things that are very important to me: 1. Preaching verse by verse through the Bible 2. Reaching people far from God By answering this question I have to teach with a misconception: that expositional preaching is primarily a tool to reach believers and topical/ felt need preaching is what reaches unchurched people.  I don't buy this idea at all. I am thankful to the Lord that we've seen close to 1,000 new believers at Calvary in the last … Read More
