Well, I finally ordered the kindle! I hope I like it. If not, I can promise you that it's going right back to Amazon. But I will say this: I just redesigned my entire office to add more bookshelf space and I'm out of space for my books again! It's a little frustrating. So I need the Kindle to work for me, because my next step is to kick myself out of my office and allow the books to completely take over :)
Kind Words (Part 2)
If you haven't picked up a copy of Zero to Sixty, here's what one of the church's top leaders had to say about it: "Bob Franquiz writes with raw honesty and creativity. His insight will make you dream. His humor will make you laugh. This book will help you become a better leader." – Mark Batterson Lead Pastor, National Community Church Author, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day Thanks for the kind words Mark. You can pick up a copy of Zero to Sixty here.
Kind Words (Part 1)
If you haven't picked up a copy of Zero to Sixty, here's what one of the church's top leaders had to say about it: "Warning–you might not like this book; in fact, if you are searching for the latest and greatest formula as to how to grow your ministry you will probably throw it across the room. This is not a book written on "how" to do ministry–but rather "what" questions that ministry leaders should be asking. The things written about are easy to underline and highlight…but will be challenging to apply. However, I believe if a church is … Read More
Book Review: Vintage Church
As a Pastor, I try to read everything that comes out on the subject of church leadership. So when Mark Driscoll put out vintage church, I picked it up. First, let me say that I'm a big fan of Mark's writings. I've never walked away from a Driscoll book disappointed and Vintage Church was no different. What I love about this book is that it uniquely spoke to the church leader and the new believer at the same time (which is not an easy thing to do). For church leaders, the chapter on church discipline is a must read. … Read More

Some Book Reviews…
Here's a few brief book reviews of some books I've recently read… Refuel – I'm a big fan of Doug Fields. So I picked up Refuel because I loved the concept of the book. The book was simple, but I was challenged by it. The idea is, we're going to burn out if we don't regularly connect with God. While it's not a formula for having a devotional time with God, he does lay out some practical stuff that was really helpful. Plus, it's a quick read. The Principle of the Path – This is Andy Stanley's new book. … Read More

Book Review: The Prodigal God
I thoroughly enjoyed “The Reason for God” when I read it, but “The Prodigal God” was a great read. I have been thinking about doing a series on the story of The Prodigal Son and Tim Keller knocked it out of the park with an insightful look at this famous story. I read the book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. I was reading the book and making a list of all the people I was going to buy this book for (Christmas spoiler alert 🙂 I have read some of Kenneth Bailey’s books, whose books are … Read More
Book Review: Reality Check
First, let me say that’s Im a huge fan of Guy Kawasaki’s books. In fact, I have the church planters I coach read “The Art of the Start”. But his latest book, “Reality Check” was amazing! It’s not a small book by any means, but it’s packed with insight and practical help for anyone starting or leading an organization. The section on staffing alone is worth the price of the book. Plus, the whole book is written in 3-5 page chapters (which if you know me, short chapters are my favorite thing in the world) If you’re leading a church … Read More
Book Week (No relation to Bike Week)
I’m going to spend the week reviewing some great books that I’ve read over the last couple of weeks. But I did want to mention that Nelson Searcy and I just did a podcast covering what we thought were the top 8 books of 2008. You can listen to the podcast here. It was tough to narrow it down to just 8 books, but I hope they are a benefit to you as you think about what to read in 2009.
