Book Review: The Exceptional Presenter

Bob FranquizBooks

I usually don’t just pick a book off the shelf without getting some kind of recommendation. But I grabbed The Exceptional Presenter by Timothy Koegel because the title got my attention. I read some of it at Barnes and Noble and I was hooked. This is a really good book for those of us who communicate regularly. I was shocked as he proceeded to list all of MY bad habits as a speaker 🙂 It was as though he listens to me every week and kept a list of all my idiosyncrasies. Needless to say, this book was all nuts … Read More

Book Review: Going All the Way

Bob FranquizBooks

First, let me say that I’m a huge fan of Craig Groeschel and Lifechurch.tv. One of the nicest things anyone has said to me this year was when a Pastor at a large church locally visited our church and said we reminded him of Lifechurch.tv. Also, I’m leading a small group for college-age students using Craig’s book, Chazown, which has been a great experience. Anyway, I was excited when I received Craig’s newest book, “Going all the Way” in the mail. The book was great. It is a great book to give a high school student or single adult to … Read More

Book Review: If You Want it Done Right, You Don’t Have to Do it Yourself!

Bob FranquizBooks

I don’t know of anyone who couldn’t improve in the area of delegation. If you Want it Done Right, You Don’t Have to Do it Yourself by Donna Genett is a great book that puts forth 6 principles for effective delegation. As I read this pint sized book, I realized that every time I had a problem in delegating it’s because I had violated one of these principles. I’m not going to tell you what they are because I think you should buy the book 🙂 I was challenged by the book and highly recommend it.

Book Review: How to Win Customers and Keep Them for Life

Bob FranquizBooks

How to Win Customers and Keep them for Life by Michael LeBoeuf was given to me by a friend and it’s not a book that I think I would have picked up off a shelf and bought, but it had some good insights. The book is about sales, but underneath that there’s some excellent insight into how people think and what makes people tick. Being in the people “business” so to speak, I was very intrigued by his observations of people. Here’s a few great quotes from the book: – “A typical business only hears from 4% of its’ dissatisfied … Read More

Book Review: The Divine Mentor

Bob FranquizBooks

If I could get every person at CF to read “The Divine Mentor”, I would. It’s a great book that reminds us of the importance of reading God’s Word daily. Wayne Cordiero shares his personal Bible study habits and the benefits of remaining in God’s Word daily. It was an easy read, but it filled with powerful insights. His S.O.A.P. devotional method is what I use each morning. I love the idea of the characters in the Scriptures being our mentors throughout our lives. Anyway, this is a great book to pick if you’re looking establish a Bible reading/ devotional … Read More

Book Review: The Elements of Persuasion

Bob FranquizBooks

The Elements of Persuasion by Richard Maxwell and Robert Dickman was recommended to me by a fellow communicator and I’m really glad I read it. If you communicate to any degree then you know how important it is to refine your craft. That’s why I love reading books on speaking and communication. It helps me think about what I do and it broadens my scope. This book was very good. It really unpacked what happens when we communicate our ideas using words, pictures, and emotion. Here’s a few of my favorite quotes: “A story is a fact, wrapped in an … Read More

Book Review: Leadership

Bob FranquizBooks

I was given Leadership by Tom Peters as a gift, so I decided to give it a read. I didn’t love it. It had some good insights, but nothing that blew me away. Here’s a couple of nuggets that were good: “A leader is a dealer in hope.” “Leaders don’t ‘want to win’. Effective leaders ‘need to win.’” “Effective leaders exude a sense of confidence and determination that inspires others.”

Book Review: It’s Okay to be the Boss

Bob FranquizBooks

Let me say that It’s Okay to be the Boss was a great read! This book had so many great insights into managing and leading. It blew up a lot of the myths about managing and really got me thinking about how I manage and how I can improve and set our staff up for success. I saw so many of the mistakes I have made as a manager and a lot of the mistakes that people made in managing me in the past 🙂 Here’s a few quotes that stood out: “If you are the boss, it is your … Read More

Book Review: The Magic of Thinking Big

Bob FranquizBooks

The Magic of Thinking Big was an interesting read. Part of it was very “The power of positive thinking-ish”, but other parts were very insightful into human behavior. I couldn’t help but think of people I know who are negative when I read the book. Mostly because the author describes these people to a “T”. I really believe if people were more positive and believed that God did want to work in their lives that He would. There’s a few too many Eeyore’s in the church there days and not enough Tiggers. (I’m not talking about being extroverted, just positive … Read More
