Some Thoughts on Writing
I gotten some questions about writing over the last few months, so I thought I'd answer a few of them here. Hopefully you'll find it helpful. #1 – When do you find time to write? Writing is an extracurricular activity from my position as Senior Pastor at Calvary Fellowship. So a book like Zero to Sixty was written either early in the morning or late at night. I like to say that Zero to Sixty was written between 11PM-3AM for the course of 6 months. #2 – What's your rhythm for writing? A friend told me that a writer is … Read More
Coming Soon…
I just got this emailed to me from my publisher – the Kindle version of my new book, Zero to Sixty: 60 principles and practices for leading a growing church. I skimmed through the Kindle version of the book yesterday and I'm really happy with the job they did. I've gotten a lot of requests for this, so it should be up really soon on amazon.com. You can get my other books on amazon.com here: Elements: Starting a Revolution in your World Watermark: An Explanation of Baptism (which is only $4.99 on the Kindle)
How to Create a Culture of Evangelism in your Church
I wrote this originally for the www.church-strategies.com newsletter, but since this is a question we get all the time, I thought I'd post the e-strategy that I wrote here. By the way, you can sign up to receive the www.church-strategies.com Newsletter here. The #1 Factor to Creating a Culture of Evangelism in Your Church I believe one of the most critical factors in creating a culture of evangelism is people seeing evangelism happening in the church. At Calvary Fellowship, we present the Gospel every week because we know there are people in the crowd who don't know Jesus. Thus, because … Read More
I Almost Gave up on Direct Mail… and why I’m glad I didn’t
After sending out a 50,000 piece mailing that got dismal results I said, "That's it! I'm done with direct mail!" But before I totally gave up, I decided to learn about how it works for companies that were achieving tremendous success during direct mail. That's when everything changed! The next time we did direct mail, we employed new strategies that allowed us to spend a fraction of what we were spending previously and get a 300%-400% better return for our investment. These strategies have been a game-changer for us and recently I taught these "secrets" to a group of Pastors … Read More

Book Review: I’ll Make You an Offer You Can’t Refuse
I heard about Michael Frenzese's story and was intrigued, so I picked up a copy of his newest book, "I'll Make You an offer you can't refuse" and I really enjoyed it. Michael takes some of the best practices that he learned from being in the mob (that's a weird sentence) and applies them to how to be more effective in business. I actually really liked this book. It's a very fun read (If you're a fan of the Godfather films or Goodfellas, you'll love the book) and it does have some insight that you'll find helpful. … Read More
The Best People to Learn from…
There seems to be 3 types of people that church leaders can learn from: A = Those who can teach the stuff, but haven't done it B = Those who can do the stuff, but can't teach it C = Those can do the stuff and teach it My recommendation? Look high and low for as many "C" people as possible. There's a lot of "A's" out there and some "B's" out there, but every "C" we can find can help us immensely in becoming better leaders.
Have a Cigar (of sorts)!
I want to do something fun to honor and celebrate the birth of my son Xander. Typically, dads would hand out cigars to those who came to the hospital to celebrate with the family. Well, I'm going to put a slight spin on that tradition, because instead of handing our cigars, I'm going to hand out free copies of my book Zero to Sixty! Over at www.church-strategies.com, every order we get between now and Sunday that's over $20 will receive a free copy of Zero to Sixty! We'll automatically put it on your order as it gets mailed out, … Read More
