Stephen King and why sermons go long

Bob FranquizChurch

Stephen king says that when he was first writing, his editor would tell him, “The second draft is the first draft minus 10%.” I have found this to be true as well. – When I wrote Zero to Sixty, it was 55,000 words. After the editing process, it was 50,000 words 🙂 – I have to ruthlessly cut my message back by at least 10% to keep them within my allotted timeframe. – When I do copywriting projects, a 4 page sales letter becomes a 3 1/2 page sales letter after the second draft. Here’s the point: when you cut, … Read More

Don’t Contribute Too Much :)

Bob FranquizChurch

I just read this article this morning form the Wall Street Journal that says Facebook’s projected revenue from ads will be close to 6 Billion dollars in 2012. (Link to article) Here’s my hope: that you don’t contribute too much to their wealth, but still utilize their services. Meaning: gets ads for cheap! That’s why I’m leading a webinar this upcoming Wednesday (August 17th) @ 2PM EST. My goal is to show you how to be more effective with your ads. That means reaching more people AND being cost effective. You can click here to learn more.

I think a lot of people signed up to serve. – We’re blessed to have just over 50% participation in serving. – It’s one of the things that allows us to keep a leaner staff. We have a small staff compared to our congregational size. I think that’s healthy. – … Read More

Facebook Ad Essentials

Bob FranquizChurch

This week we’ve been talking about Facebook ads. When it comes to successful Facebook ads, you need to have the following: 1. Know What you can and Can’t Do – Online evangelism/ marketing is most effective when you’re inviting someone to a church event. With Facebook ads for example, you have so few characters to work with that you can’t give a complete Gospel presentation. Instead, your best bet is to invite them to your church where you can present the Gospel in an environment conducive to them responding. 2. Think Active not Passive – At Calvary, we use both Google and … Read More

Q and A: Should I Buy Clicks or Impression of Facebook?

Bob FranquizChurch

I get this question pretty regularly. Here’s my response:  Here’s the short answer: clicks. When you buy clicks rather than impressions, you get the impressions anyway because Facebook doesn’t get paid unless people click.  That means Facebook is going to put the ad up as much as possible so that you can get clicks. The other reason clicks are better is because it allows you to track your results more effectively. You can’t track the results of impressions. However, you can track clicks. The bottom line is, clicks will give you the impressions and clicks will show you if your ad campaign … Read More
