I know a lot of people that call Calvary Fellowship home check out this blog from time to time. But the time has come for Calvary Fellowship to enter the blog world on its’ own. It Means Something to Me…

Bob FranquizChurch

I got an email promoting the National New Church Conference in Orlando (By the way, I don’t know if there’s a better place do a conference – that’s the one place in the world that no one can say “There’s nothing to do in this town!”) My wife and I are already planning a Disney excursion to coincide with the conference. We’re Disney freaks that have been to the parks way too many times for our own good. (When you’ve got the monologue to the Norway ride memorized, you’ve been there too many times) Anyway, I got this email promoting … Read More

Nooma #14

Bob FranquizChurch

I first heard Rob Bell at Catalyst 2003 and was completely blown away. It was one of the most moving conference experiences of my life. After hearing him, we picked up a short film he did called “Rain”, which was fantastic. Since then, we bought all of the Nooma videos and wait eagerly for each new release. Well, Nooma #14 didn’t disappoint. The title is “breathe”, and it’s out of hand! You can pick it up here or here. You might not agree with everything Rob says or believes theologically, but his handle on Scripture and culture is, to quote … Read More

Hot off the Presses

Bob FranquizChurch

We just got the first few copies of our newest pamphlet “Watermark”, that is an explanation of baptism. I’m happy with the layout and the fact that it’s not 200 pages. It seems to me that books are intentionally too long. I love to read, but many of the books I read could be shortened and lose no real content. Then again, someone could probably say that about my preaching 🙂

Portable Church Forum in Orlando

Bob FranquizChurch

The day I posted about canceling our Momentum conference, I was contacted by the guys from the National New Church Conference about hosting our roundtable discussion in Orlando as a pre-conference intensive. So that’s what we’re doing. On April 23-24, I’ll be leading a pre-conference intensive on the subject of portable churches. I am planning on sharing everything we were going to share at the conference into this time slot. So bring a notebook and be ready to write. We’re also going to be giving out a copy of my book to every attender, as well as a CD with … Read More

TV Guest Star Aftershow Thoughts…

Bob FranquizChurch

Well, I got done with my first TV experience. I did this panel discussion on “Viewpoint” today and I think it went pretty well. It’s the first time I was led into a make-up room. It got a little weird when the guy powdered the top of my head so my impending baldness wouldn’t glare. But the discussion was good. There was 3 Ph.d’s and me. It was an odd feeling. All three of them were Catholic, the host was Episcopal, and then there was me. I felt a little out of place. The other 2 guys wore a suit, … Read More

TV Guest Star

Bob FranquizChurch

I got asked to be a guest on a show called, “Viewpoint” that airs on Channel 2. At first, I thought it was “The View” and I got really excited. But I’m honored to be asked to be on any show. I’m still waiting for 24 to call me so I can guest star as some guy that helps Jack Bauer kill a terrorist. That’s the height of being on TV. To say, “I helped Jack Bauer save the world!” We’ll be taping the “Viewpoint” show tomorrow. The topic? End Times Theology. So if anyone needs me, I’ll be reading … Read More

OK, that’s Enough!

Bob FranquizChurch

This just in: The Church Report has come out with a list of the top 50 influential Christians. Can we just decide that we’ve all had enough of the lists? I think some church leaders are going to start rioting in the streets if we don’t stop this “list” business (I may be among them). What’s funny is, I hadn’t heard of several people on the list. But if we want to keep the whole list thing going, how about someone publish a list that people might find interesting to read. How about “The Top 50 most annoying Christians of … Read More

Every Time

Bob FranquizChurch

God has been doing something with me lately that’s blowing me away. Every time I think of someone in our church that I haven’t seen in a while, I’ve decided to start praying for them daily. Then I see them the next Sunday. This has happened a bunch of times in the last couple of months. It has been a faith builder and I have seen my love for the people in our church grow as well.

New Series This Sunday!

Bob FranquizChurch

I’m excited to kick off 2007 with a new series called “Shift”. We’re going to look at our mission as a church and the 3 vital relationships that we all need. I think January is a great time to share vision and get everyone back on the same page.
