Pirate Blogging

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Have you ever posted on your blog and as people posted their comments, an entirely different conversation emerges?  It happens and I’ve given it a title:  Pirate Blogging.  I think this is what’s happening on the blog that Andy Stanley is posting on.  It’s awesome!  He gets to ask questions, get responses, but he doesn’t have to pay Typepad a thing!  I’m ready to subscribe with Bloglines to this kid’s blog just to read Andy’s pirate blog.  "Yo ho yo ho a pirate’s life for me…"

Fan Club Button

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I’d like to thank Mark, our worship/ Youth Pastor for designing our official fan club button. You can download it and wear it with pride. We are still taking fan club memberships (Please note there are no benefits to joining. Only the feeling of being in a cool club – It’s kind of like the Kiss army).

Andy Stanley Fanclub!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

In light of Andy’s recent hilarious remarks about people talking smack about Northpoint, I’ve decided to start the Andy Stanley fan club.  Since I am the only member at this point, I will elect myself the president.   Seriously, I am a huge Andy/ Northpoint fan, and I love the fact that Andy is reading a blog from this obscure guy who’s going to school.  It just rocks!  Membership is free and there are no benefits.  Sign up now!

Top Mistakes Part 18

#18 – I made one bad hiring decision…and it cost me I don’t mean to sound like an alarmist, but when you are just beginning to add staff, make sure you are hiring the right person. I know they seem like a nice person, they probably are. But that doesn’t mean they really understand your vision. They might be faithful and really love God, but they may not be able to handle the inner workings of church. I have a friend that works at Disney World and he told me one of the hardest things was seeing Mickey Mouse without … Read More

#18 – I have the most amazing wife ever! You cannot start a church without your wife behind you 100%! I just think it’s impossible. Her prayers, support, love, and listening ear are the most important resources you have in beginning a new work for God. My wife has been the model of this in my life. She has supported me and prayed for me. She has encouraged me when I wanted to give up (and yes, that’s been more than once) and has believed even when I didn’t. Carey is the unsung hero of Calvary Fellowship, as most will … Read More

Top Mistakes #17

Bob FranquizLeadership

#17 – I was too judgmental on people on other churches I know no other church planter struggles with this, but I was really hard on Pastors and churches that didn’t see things the way I did. Yes, I was young and idealistic once, and now at the ripe old age of 31 I’m coming to grips with the fact that God is doing a different work with different people. My desire is to do what God has called me to do, but sometimes that zeal (especially in very Type “A” people like church planters) can come off as a … Read More

#17 – I got a Hobby Church planting is really only for the insane! But you can survive I’ve found, if you can engage something else as a hobby that can take your mind off of church world for a while. I have found that to be baseball. I have loved baseball since I was a kid and visited Fenway Park in Boston for the very first time. But for me, when I engage a game I can forget about everything else for a while. There’s so much junk that no one ever told us planting a church would entail, … Read More

Top Victories Part 16

#16 – I’ve tried to read everything I can on church planting I’ve shared before, that when we started CF I had never read 1 book on church planting, but once we started and I realized that the idealistic dream world I was living in (The one where you open the Bible and 1,000’s show up on the first weekend) didn’t happen, I decided to get educated. Believe it or not, I used to think these kinds of books were bad. What I’ve learned is that these books can offer great insight and suggestions into positioning your church to reach … Read More

The Latest on Gas in the Church

Bob FranquizChurch

No, this isn’t what happens when you serve chili in your church cafeteria!  This is what one church is doing to attract a crowd into their church.  A bunch of people have written stuff about this issue, so I thought I’d add my 2 cents into the mix.  I don’t really see this as a big deal.  While I wouldn’t do it personally, isn’t this just like having a bus ministry in the 70’s?  Churches started bus ministries so those who didn’t have vehicles or couldn’t afford gas could still come to church.  So I don’t see handing out gas … Read More
