Start on Time!

Bob FranquizChurch

At CF, we are Nazi-like in starting our services on time. I hear about a lot of Pastors that wait for a while saying, “Let’s give people a few minutes to get here.” That’s a slippery slope my friend. I know it stinks to start service to an empty room (Trust me I know. I live in Miami, where I wonder if anyone in this town actually owns a clock!) When we were about 6 months old as a church, I was the worship leader (very few people survived those days). 9AM hit and we were supposed to start. The … Read More

ipod Spring Cleaning

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I took on a project today that needed to be done: I cleaned out my ipod of stuff that I’m never going to listen to again. I had so many messages/ podcasts that I have downloaded and listened to and so I went through the task of going through them to make room. There’s some things you just aren’t going to listen to over and over. Some got trashed. Others got put on my external drive for future use/ listening. Moral of the story: I’ve got 7GB’s of space open on my 30GB ipod. Plenty of room for new stuff. … Read More

The Best Part of Easter…

70 people made a decision to follow Jesus on Easter Sunday at Calvary Fellowship! After the week of hell that our staff had, hearing about 70 people made it all worth it…

Orlando on My Mind…

Bob FranquizChurch

I’ve got an action packed few days in Orlando in a couple of weeks and I am looking forward to it… – I’m really looking forward to going to the National New Church Conference. I’m not only excited to teach my Portable Church Forum. We’ve got a good group signed up so far, so I’m looking forward to connecting with some church planters. I’m also looking forward to hooking up with some guys that I’ve met over the last couple of years and hearing some great speakers who have a passion for planting new churches. – Also, I’ll be seeing … Read More

Book Review: Your Church can Grow

Bob FranquizBooks

A friend of mine who has recommended several great books to me raved about “Your Church can Grow” by C. Peter Wagner, so I picked it up. I became familiar with Wagner while on staff at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale as they use his spiritual gifts test, which was pretty good. The book on the other hand, was not so good. My best way to explain these 207 pages of really dated material is that it reminded me of a 70’s leisure suit; there was a time when it was cool, but that time is long past. While I’m sure … Read More

Easter…

Bob FranquizChurch

Today was completely insane! Honestly, I’m glad it’s over 🙂 Spiritually, our entire staff has been getting attacked over the last 2 weeks. I’ve probably expand on that when I’m not completely wiped out. I obsessed over this Easter message. I find holiday messages the most difficult to teach. Began the Gospel of Mark. I taught chapter 1, verse 1 and taught about what the Gospel of Jesus is. I enjoy teaching topically, but expositional teaching is how I cut my teeth teaching. It’s what our church was built on. I’m glad to be back teaching verse by verse. Lots … Read More

Front Page!!!

Bob FranquizChurch

I got a call that we made the front page of the Easter Edition of the Miami Herald!!! I just got back from Publix and bought 2 copies of Sunday Early edition and there we were! Totally amazing! Here’s what you have to understand: Miami has 2.5 million people and only about 6% go to church on a given Sunday. The city is spiritual, but not remotely Christian. So for a church make the front page is a miracle and favor from God. The article was very well written. There’s 4 pictures of our church. One of Mark and the … Read More

3PM on a Certain Friday…

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, “Look, He is calling for Elijah!” Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.” And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.” (Mark 15:34-37)
