Hanging with the “Buzzards”

Bob FranquizChurch

Well, the Buzz conference is over. I have a bunch of thoughts that I’m going to post, but the biggest highlight for me was getting to connect with some guys that are in the trenches in their area. I think if the conference was on the subject of starting a Taco Bell franchise, I still would have gone just to hang out with these great leaders. So here are my impressions of some of the guys I got to spend time with: Gary Lamb said 3 of the funniest things I think I’ve ever heard. Unfortunately, I can’t repeat them … Read More

Buzz Day one

Bob FranquizChurch

Well, the first day of Buzz is in the history books and I had a great time. Mark and I got to have lunch with Gary and Tony. These guys are awesome! Tony is seems laid back, more the thinker type. Gary is on 10. But I love the dude’s passion and energy. We laughed a lot and talked shop throughout lunch from the best pizza place in D.C. (At least that’s what the owner said. Although I do find it suspect that you have to tell people that you have the best pizza in town). The sessions were good. … Read More

Our Nation’s Capitol

Mark and I got to Washington D.C. today around 2PM and went straight to the White House. We weren’t able to do a tour, but we were able to take some pictures. We even saw a sniper in the roof (I felt safe). Then we went to Ebenezer’s to see where we’d be tomorrow for the start of the Buzz Conference. I got to meet a couple of the guys from the NCC staff. Cool guys. From there we hit the Memorial trail. We went to the Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, FDR Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial. Needless to … Read More

Book Review: The Radical Reformission

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I think the highest compliment I can give The Radical Reformission is the same thing I think when I hear a great song: “I wish I had written that.” The book is that good! Driscoll is insightful, witty, and like me, he probably TiVo’s “The Best Week Ever” so he can OD on pop culture. I don’t know if I’ve connected with a book as much as I connected with this one in quite a while. It was amazing to read a book about ministry and to look at what you’re doing and realize that intuitively you’re doing a majority … Read More

American Idol

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I thought the Idols did well tonight. My prediction is that Paris will be going home. Taylor surprised me with how well he did. Katherine’s 2nd song was much better than the 1st. I don’t know if Phil Collins was the right choice, but she’s going to be at the finale. Chris was great! Both songs were really good. The first song was better, but both were great. He will also be there at the finale. My wife voted for him about a dozen times. Paris’s version of Kiss by Prince was really good. I wasn’t into the Mary J. … Read More

Book Review: Sheet Music

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just taught a message on Sunday about sex and intimacy, so I picked up “Sheet Music” by Dr. Kevin Leman to do some research. What a great book! I have recommended it to several friends and folks in our church. Sex is such an important part of any marriage and yet it’s a subject that’s rarely talked about. I was amazed at how open Dr. Leman is about his own sex life and how frank he is in answering some questions that would make some people blush. This is not a book just for couples who have lame sex … Read More

Full House!

Bob FranquizChurch

It’s Official: We have a space problem! Church was packed on Sunday! Children’s Ministry had a ton of kids. It was great to see so many people come back from Easter. We’re praying as to what God is going to lead us to do. We can’t do a 2nd service in the theatre due to time constraints (We could do an earlier service, but I would be the only one there), so we’re thinking and praying through some alternatives. I’m hoping some of my peeps at Buzz this week will give me some good counsel.
