Playing Hooky – Part 1

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Well, I’m beginning to think my face is going to appear on the back of a milk carton since I’ve been gone for 2 weeks from the pulpit (not that I use a pulpit).  Last Sunday I had the privilege of teaching at another church, but this Sunday Carey and I decided to actually take a Sunday off. Some might think we’ve been off for the last 2 weeks, but we really only took 3 days off.  So we decided to go to South Beach and enjoy a Sunday alone.  It was great.  We figured we’d tell you about it … Read More

The Name Game

Bob FranquizChurch

Well, after teasing our church with this name change that we’ve been talking about for months, we are going to unveil, reveal, unleash (whatever you want to call it) our new name and modified mission statement this Sunday! I am so excited to get back! I feel like it’s been 2 months since I’ve been gone and it’s only been 2 weeks…

Book Review: Culture Shift

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just finished reading Culture Shift by Wayne Cordiero and Robert Lewis last night.  The book was amazing.  Every church leader should read this.  The book is a journey is discovering what are the values of your church or organization and how to change them if they aren’t where you feel they should be.  They use the experiences of both of their churches (New Hope in Honolulu and Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock) as examples of how their values direct their ministries.  I highly recommend it if you are looking to review your values and even tweak them … Read More

May I Offer you a Beverage?

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Stephen Hinkel had an amazing post today about Coca Cola.  While I love Coke and I believe Coke will be the official beverage of heaven, the stats that Stephen shared are no joke.  Even though I love Coke, I haven’t had one in 6 months.  Believe it or not, it’s not as hard as I thought.  But now this info should make it easier.  Read it here.

Review: Quickverse for Mac

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Well, I waited patiently as Psalm 40 asks me to.  And it finally got here…Quickverse for Mac!  So I opened to packaging it came in.  I installed it and it’s…not that great!  I’m disappointed.  Let me start off by saying that I’m old school Quickverse.  I’ve been using it for about 10 years.  But it just looks like they didn’t really put a lot of effort into it.  What do I mean?  Here is my own version of a FAQ page:  Why is it bad?  Great question.  It’s bad because the program isn’t integrated like the previous versions of Quickverse.  … Read More

A little less ranting about Message Preparation…

Bob FranquizTeaching

In light of my past post, I didn’t want to give the impression that I don’t listen to great communicators as research for message preparation. I do. It’s one of my favorite parts of preparing a talk or series. But what I’ve learned to do over the last couple of years is to decide where I’m going with the message or individual message before I listen to outside stuff. This way I’m able to hear from God and get my ideas out before I hear someone else’s take on it. I teach my staff that teaching is like what Jesus … Read More

Mr. 5,000

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just checked my stats and I just passed 5,000 hits. That would make me a shoe-in for the Baseball Hall of Fame if those were base-hits, but they are blog hits and I don’t believe there are any awards for that. I know it’s not a huge deal, but I really enjoy doing this blog and if you are one of the 5,000 hits, thanks for reading…

I’m on a Creativity Rant!

Bob FranquizTeaching

I’m ranting, so you’ve been warned!  But the recent post from Church Marketing Sucks still has me thinking.  The comments went wild that churches shouldn’t do it, but so many churches are.  Why are we so quick to copy?  I watch church leaders copy other churches’ mission statement, values, ministry names, and teaching series.  Is there a problem here?  I think so.  Especially when so many churches are claiming creativity is one of their values.  OK.  What are you creating?  Orders to different ministries to know waht the next series is?  Come on.  Should we glean?  Of course.  But that … Read More
