Happy Birthday to my Blog!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Well, it’s official! My 1 month free trial is over and I’m actually paying for this blog now. That means I’ve reached my one month-anniversary! I’d like to say that it has been quite a ride. But honestly, it has been great. Getting to know the people I’ve been able to meet through the blog has been totally worth it. There are a lot of great people who love God doing some great things for the kingdom and I’ve enjoyed learning from them through the posts on their blogs and the comments made on my site. So month 2 here … Read More

Name that Movie – The sequel

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just wanted to give Carol and Carlos mad props on getting this week’s quote, because not only did they get it, they quoted major portions of “Can’t Buy Me Love” in the process. The funny part is that because I don’t expect people to know this movie as well as I do, I didn’t catch the quotes at first. I LOVE high school movies, but “Can’t Buy Me Love” is by far my favorite. I literally have every line of that movie memorized (Yes, I’m aware of how sad that is). So I tip my cap to you… “Jocks … Read More

Name that Movie

As always, guesses must be given without the aid of Google, or nay other web browser. it must come from the recesses of your twisted mind. So here is this week’s quote” “You nuked my brother! You took him from geek status, to king status, to no status!” Enjoy…

Series or Season?

Bob FranquizTeaching

I was thinking about the trend of having teaching series’ last anywhere from 4 – 8 weeks. The reasoning behind it at times is that we don’t want people to get bored, we don’t want to dwell on a subject for too long, people have shorter attention spans, etc… But what if we took a page out of what TV has been doing for years? They aren’t showing a 4-part mini-series anymore for the most part. They are going with season long shows. A season for a TV show is anywhere from 4-8 months. So what would happen if we … Read More

World Series Predictions Part 1

Bob FranquizGeneral

OK, I’m coming out and making my predictions for the world series.  I’ve said this since the beginning of the season that I believe the World Series will have the Florida Marlins representing the National League.  You might think that is a bit suspect since I live in Miami, but it’s what I think nonetheless.  Here’s why:  NL EastEven though everyone is going crazy over the Nationals winning 10 in a row, it won’t hold up (Remember, the Devil dogs won something like 13 in a row last year and still ended up dead last in the AL East).  After … Read More

The Reality of Rented Facilities

Bob FranquizUncategorized

We’ve been a church for 4 1/2 years, and we’ve met in 3 locations.  What’s interesting is that each of these locations came with their own set of unique challenges.  While they frustrated me to no end at the time, I look back kind of fondly and think of all that God has done.  #1 – Church in a hotel – When we met in a hotel, there were only 2 meeting rooms so we put all the adults in one room and all the kids in the other.  Think about that for a moment, Birth through 5th grade all … Read More

In a Dressing Room, Thinking about…Branding

Bob FranquizChurch

So I’m in the dressing room of Express (For Men), and I started to think about branding.  Why?  Because as I was trying on a sports coat for a wedding that I’m officiating next week (And my old one is huge on me since I’ve shed an extra human’s worth of weight), that I started noticing the buttons on the jacket.  As I looked at the sides, they said, "Express" all the way around.  I looked at the shirt I was trying on, and the same was true on those buttons as well.  So it got me thinking, "How are … Read More

Experiential Teaching

Bob FranquizTeaching

If you teach, you know how God has you go through the stuff that you’re teaching? Sunday was a really tough message for me. It was one of those, “What happens when God doesn’t answer in the way you wanted Him to?” types of messages. But the response was unbelievable! People were so moved as I shared my story about how God hasn’t answered me in the way I’ve wanted Him to at times. I was teaching on John the Baptist being in prison (I’ve been doing a series of messages on John the Baptist’s life) and he waited and … Read More

Best Books for Church Planters – Part 3

Bob FranquizUncategorized

My #3 selection for best books for a church planter is “The Upside Down Church” by Greg Laurie. This book is not your average book on church planting. It’s the story of how Greg Laurie’s church, Harvest Christian Fellowship has grown without using any of the church growth principles that have filled 100’s of books. I’ve read a bunch of books on church planting, church growth, church health. etc… but the one that I believe the one that most matches what we do at CCML is this one. It’s a simple approach that uses Acts 2:42 as a model of … Read More
