Since my streak of not being sick is broken (“Illness free since 2003”), I’m learning the good things about having a cold:
#1 – Sleep – I normally sleep about 6-7 hours a night. I think I took a 6 hour nap yesterday. Then I slept like a rock. It was glorious.
#2 – No guilt for doing nothing – Right now, laying on the couch is my job. Plus, I don’t have the energy to get up.
#3 – Reading – I’m going to try to at least read one book while I’m doing nothing (I guess if I’m reading, I’m not doing nothing). I’ve got Driscoll’s new book next to me that I’m going to read today.
#4 – Food – Carey has put together a menu of comfort food for the day that rules. French toast for breakfast (Her French toast is so good it could make countries go to war for the recipe). Grilled cheese and soup for lunch (I love grilled cheese). Macaroni and cheese for dinner (Don’t think Kraft, think gourmet Mac and cheese that you’d pay $20 for at some overprices restaurant on South Beach). What makes this awesome is that I haven’t eaten this stuff since I started losing weight over a year ago. It’s like reuniting old friends.
As an aside: I’m learning to appreciate having the use of both nostrils. You don’t really think about it when you can breathe. But I’m doing the whole “Flip to one side so the stuff drains and I can breathe out of one nostril, but then the other gets clogged“. It’s not pretty.
