I noticed that I’m approaching 1700 comments on my parking spot in the digital universe, so I thought I’d do something fun: I’m going to give away a copy of my book to whoever commenter #1,700 is. But we’re taking it a step further (a la itunes) and I’m going to give away a copy of my book to commenter 1,750; 1,800; 1,850; 1,900; and 1,950. What will commenter #2,000 win? A free ticket our Momentum Conference on March 1-2. Let the typing begin!
What I Got for Christmas!
This was the year for the Franquiz household! I got my coveted scrapbook from my Israel trip in 1999! Carey did an absolutely incredible job on it. It is the best looking scrapbook I have ever seen. It looks like something out of a catalog. Plus, she got me the Swiss Army watch that I’ve been wanting for years. It looks awesome! But because she knows me so well, she got me a Brother P-Touch labeler. It might not sound like much to you, but for organizational freaks like me, it is glorious! I’ve been labeling all morning and it … Read More
What I Want for Christmas
As I sit here on Christmas Eve ready to leave for a friend’s house, I’m thinking about what I want for Christmas (honestly, this has been the busiest Christmas season of my life and I haven’t thought much about it). So here’s what I’m hoping for under the tree: – A black Gibson Les Paul Standard – A Marshall Mini-stack – A Swiss Army Watch – A Scrapbook of my trip to Israel in 1999 – An assortment of movies that I’m constantly raving about – The Crash movie poster that was hanging in the control room of the theatre … Read More
Birthing Class #2
Carey and I had our second birthing class on Monday night. It was good. My favorite part is hearing Mark groan when they show gross stuff in the videos 🙂 I don’t care if it’s natural, it’s still not fun to look at. I got to learn about all the drugs that are available to women during labor. The only part I didn’t like so much was when the teacher asked the men to lay back, put their legs up and push like they’re giving birth. This was to help us appreciate what our wives are doing. I pushed twice… … Read More
Mia Preview
Here’s a couple of “Preview” pictures of my daughter Mia. Mia’s official arrival isn’t until February 9th, but here’s what she looks like today.
People of Passion
Carey and I took our first birthing class on Monday night. Quite an experience. The videos they showed were a little more explicit than necessary, but we got through it. But here’s what I can’t get out of my mind: the nurse who taught the class has been doing this for 20 years, so this is nothing new to her. Yet when she talked about the joy of holding your baby for the first time after the pain of labor, she had tears in her eyes. I was amazed! She’s still passionate about her message after all this time and … Read More
Life in 4-D
Carey and I saw our daughter Mia today in 4-D through the wonders of technology. We did this 4-D ultrasound and got to see how she’s developing, but we got to what she looks like. Let me say (as only a dad can), that she is absolutely beautiful! She looks just like her mom (thankfully). I’ll post some pictures in a couple of days, but I was blown away by seeing my little girl for the first time (even if it was just a preview). Carey and I have waited for almost 10 years to have a child and now … Read More
The Media Notices Momentum
I did an interview with Salem Radio News today about our Momentum Conference. These guys do news for over 1,100 stations in the US. They were very interested in the idea of portable churches. I’m looking forward to hearing the interview when it airs. The truth is, in many parts of the country, being portable is just a reality that a lot of churches just have to deal with long term. The question is, how do we do this well and transform the environment to something that meets the needs of those in the community? That’s what the conference is … Read More
Launch Conference
For those of you that are planting churches, Nelson Searcy is hosting a free conference on launching a church from scratch in New York City on January 22-23 2007. You can get more info on Nelson’s website. Nelson’s stuff has helped us tremendously. I’m sure this is going to be well worth the time spent! Nelson is also going to be one of our keynote speakers at our Momentum Conference in March.
Captain’s (B)log Star Date 11.27.06
(This post should be read with dramatic William Shatner pauses to… get… the full… effect) I feel…much better today. Antibiotics are a wonderful thing! I will say this, I’m losing my mind. I haven’t been out of the house since Thursday. And I was out on Thanksgiving for a total of 2 1/2 hours. All I’ve done for the last 5 days is sleep, cough, and watch Star Trek (thank you TiVo). All of the shows I watch are on Christmas break, so I had to go old school. The bad news is that Carey caught what I had, so … Read More
