My buddy Chris has posted a “King of the Hill” episode where Hank and family go church shopping. It is hilarious! If you have a few minutes, check it out here.
Sex
This weekend I’m teaching on sex. Our office has been buzzing this week with anticipation about the message. I’m really excited about teaching this message. I’ve never taught on sex on a Sunday morning. People are telling me they’re inviting friends because they’ve dying to know what God says about sex. One thing that I’m learning in anticipation about the message is how little sex is talked about in church circles. No wonder people are going to culture to learn about sex. And we wonder why the church is no different than the world in this area. We’re going to … Read More
Great Day!
Carey and I got up way too early to get to Calvary Chapel Merritt Island (Near Cape Canaveral) for a Florida Calvary Senior Pastors’ Meeting. We do this twice a year and since I haven’t been able to make it for the last 3 years (believe it or not), I made it a point to go today. It was great! I got to see some friends that I normally don’t get to spend time with. I got to have lunch with my Pastor and ask him about 800 questions over the course of 1 hour. I went home thinking about … Read More
Outreach Thoughts
Having done both direct mail and a street team that put door hangers on doors to promote an event, I’d like to share my thoughts on the effectiveness of both (And I’d like to hear your as well). I think I prefer the door hanger/ street team approach better for a couple of reasons: #1 – Cost – Direct mail isn’t cheap. Mailing out to homes within a 2 mile radius of our church is very expensive. With a street team, all you have are printing costs (which you would have with postcards anyway). Plus, people are usually excited to … Read More
Easter
Easter services went absolutely amazing! Both services were full. Tons of first time guests. Children’s ministry was packed. I don’t think our band has ever sounded better. We didn’t know what to expect because this week was Spring Break in Miami, so a lot of our regulars were out of town. Nonetheless, the turn out was great! We had a technical glitch in the 1st service and my wireless mic was getting all kinds of interference. That was annoying to say the least! So I ended up having to use a wireless handheld mic that we have. I felt like … Read More
My Prayer
Here’s been my prayer for the last week of so: There’s 350,000 churches in America. If every church could reach 3 people, that would be over 1 million people whose eternal destination is changed. I’m praying that this year’s Easter harvest is much more, but seeing a million people saved because every church decided that the Great Commission wasn’t the great suggestion would be awesome! I’m looking forward to hearing about your Easter service. So post details, pictures, and anything else, so we can celebrate with you all that God did!
It’s up to God now!
Well, no one can say that we haven’t done our part. 10,000 door hangers hung all over the city 5,000 invites handed out 100’s of e-vites sent to inboxes everywhere Countless prayers asking God to do something great on Sunday! We’ve got a whole new bookstore set-up. There’s going to be new signage everywhere! We picked up some new sound equipment that’s going to make the place rock! We got new lighting that’s going to create an awesome feel. Tomorrow should be fun.
Great Friday!
We had Good Friday service tonight and all I can say is that it was unbelievable. We weren’t able to do one last year for a number of reasons, but this year we were back and it was great. Our band was amazing! The set-up crew did a great job in a short amount of time making the place feel inviting. We did the service at an Episcopal Church that we rent for Youth and special events. I felt good about the message. Since we started our church (With the exception of one year), I have taught on one of … Read More
Emerging or Emergent?
Bill Streger posted an article that Mark Driscoll wrote for the Criswell Theological Review about the difference between emerging churches and Emergent. It’s well worth a read. Even if you don’t consider yourself any of these, this is going to affect your ministry at some point. So you may as well get familiar with the terminology if you haven’t already. Enjoy! Easter Invites!
We rolled out our Easter invites this weekend. We’re kicking off a series called, “Polaroid: Shake up your life!” It’s a series on marriage and family. This picture isn’t hi-res, but if you click on it, it should give you an idea! I’m really looking forward to it. It should be fun. It’s been over 2 years since I did a series on marriage, so we are due! We’re doing 2 services @ 9:30AM & 11AM. We’re expecting this to be our biggest Easter yet!
