In preparation for the financial seminar I’m co-leading in February, I’m reading some financial books I haven’t read. I loved “The Automatic Millionaire”, so I decided to read Smart Couples Finish Rich by David Bach. What a great book! This book is a great primer on understanding a lot of the financial terms that get thrown around. It gives a great strategy for putting together a strong financial plan that sets a couple up for retirement. Anyone who doesn’t want to be dependent on Social Security during their retirement years needs to read this book and put a plan together. … Read More
Book Review: The Richest Man in Babylon
I decided to read one of the classics, “The Richest Man in Babylon” by George Clason. Most financial books cite this as the classic text in financial matters. I wasn’t the easiest book to read (I hate reading newsprint), but the content was good. I’m amazed by how simple truths move me and how I need to hear them over and over again. I need to hear about saving, not having debt, investing, insurance, and preparation regularly. The world we live in has a way of causing us to forget these important disciplines for the sake of the immediate. That’s … Read More
Fusion
Here’s a book to put on your radar if you’re a Pastor that cares about reaching people. It’s called Fusion and it’s written by my friend Nelson Searcy. He’s been a huge blessing in my life and his approach to assimilation (which is what Fusion is all about) has helped us in helping first time guests take next steps. This book is worth 10 times the price for all the info you’re going to get! I’d encourage you to buy this book right now and get this book memorized before Easter!
Favorite books of 2007
Here’s my list of the best books I read in 2007: (They aren’t in any particular order and also, I may not have agreed with 100% of every book, but if it challenged me, that’s why it’s probably on the list). The link takes you to my review of the book… – It’s Okay to be the Boss by Bruce Tulgan – Money, Possessions, and Eternity by Randy Alcorn – The Automatic Millionaire by David Bach – Leading at a Higher Level by Ken Blanchard – The Rest of God by Mark Buchanan – The Feiner Points of Leadership by … Read More
Book Review: Eat That Frog!
Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy gives us 21 ways to stop procrastinating and start getting things done. I don’t consider myself a procrastinator, but I am huge fan of efficiency and working smart, so I love reading on this subject. I’m always looking for tips to be more effective. The truth is that we all have limited time. Our goal should be to get the most important things done (The frogs) and delete or delegate the rest. I found the book helpful. This is a great read if you’re looking for something quick that can get you going in … Read More
Book Review: Moneyball
I’ve had this book of my list of books to read for 3 years. I’ve hesitated posting this review because I haven’t stopped thinking about this book since I read it. Moneyball by Michael Lewis is a great book about the Oakland A’s and Billy Beane their general manager. It’s their story of how they compete and succeed in a market where players make millions of dollars which they cannot pay. So they have to find alternate ways of getting quality players to compete. It’s a great book if you’re a baseball fan and an interesting read if you’re a … Read More
Book Review: Rich Dad Poor Dad
I grew up in a home where I was taught nothing about money. I was told to earn it, but I was never taught what to do with it. This led to going into debt in college and then work hard to getting myself out of the hole later on. I guess that’s why I love books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. He tells his personal story of how he learned what to do with money and how to use it to his advantage. I’ve been reading a lot on this subject because I don’t want to … Read More
Book Review: Restoration
I’ve been meaning to read Restoration by D. Thomas Lancaster for a while and I finally got to it. It was a good book. There’s definitely stuff that I didn’t agree with, but I think the first 30 pages should be required reading. If you’ve ever been curious as to how the divorce between Judaism and the early followers of Jesus took place, this book gives a great timeline as to how that went down. This book is easy to read and loaded with Scripture. I’m not agreeing with his conclusion that we believers need to keep the Levitical dietary … Read More

My man Darren Plummer recently read my book Watermark and reviewed it on his blog. You can read the review here. You can (Shameless plug alert) buy Watermark here. If you want to order multiple copies and want to pay less than Amazon.com prices, e-mail me.
Thou shalt not covet…
Have you seen the new Amazon Kindle? It’s basically an ipod for books with amazon.com serving as iTunes. I love the idea for several reasons: 1. It reminds me of the data pads used on Start Trek 🙂 2. It’s awesome to be able to carry 200 books with you at all times. 3. Books download into it in 60 seconds. 4. The books look like paper and not like .pdf’s when you’re reading them. 5. It can help me with my shelf space problem. Let’s be honest, this is where the future is heading. I’m just wondering if readers … Read More
