Remind them why…

Bob FranquizChurch

It can be so easy in church world to forget why we do what we do. We can lose the holiness, the awe, and the wonder of serving God as we get caught up the day to day stuff of church. As a lead Pastor, I tend to get most of the mail that says how much people loved a sermon or the church. I also get to be the recipient of hearing what God is doing in the lives of those who are attending our services and getting involved in ministry and small groups. I decided recently that I … Read More

first day back…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I walked in this morning after having been on vacation for 2 weeks and it feels good to be back (even though, when you have a Treo and a laptop, you’re never really on vacation). But the surprise I got when I walked in was that there was an original “crash” movie poster sitting on my desk. I have been ranting and raving about the “crash” poster that was upstairs in the theatre we meet in. So John spoke to the powers that be, and they gladly gave to me. (Many thanks to my peeps over at Cobb theatres) So … Read More

Yeshua Book Review

Bob FranquizBooks

I just finished Yeshua: A Guide to the Real Jesus and the Original Church by Dr. Ron Moseley. Fantastic book. If you’re interested in understanding the Jewish roots of our faith, then this is great place to start. There’s a lot of books on this subject, but this book’s strength is its’ detailed explanation of the Pharisees and Jesus’ relationship to them. It has a lot of information on Shammai and Hillel and their rabbinic schools. He spends a great deal of time comparing the early church and the synagogue. Very intersting. It was a quick read and an easy … Read More

10 Years!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

On this day in 1997, I said my vows before God and man to the greatest woman on earth. Next to following Jesus, marrying Carey is the best decision I have ever made. (How I talked her into it, I still haven’t figured out) Carey and I both come from divorced families, so the fact that we have not only survived marriage but love each other deeply is a testament to God’s grace. It has been the 10 best years of my life. I’m looking forward to the next 10!

21 Days to a Great Marriage Book Review

Bob FranquizBooks

I read 21 Days to a Great Marriage by Henry Cloud and John Townsend in one sitting. It was a really good book. I’m getting ready to teach a marriage series and I’m doing some preliminary research. Here’s what I loved about the book: It got right to the point. Most books rehash the same themes or get completely off track in the book just to hit the 200 page mark. It’s frustrating when you’re reading a book and the author is just trying to fulfill his 60,000 word commitment to the publisher. This book got right to the point. … Read More

5 Days into it…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Mia is 5 days old, and I’ve had so many thoughts going through my mind. Here’s a couple of thoughts on being a dad, now that I’m 5 days into it… – My love has multiplied. I am madly in love with my wife and I wondered if I could love anyone else that much. I’ve learned that I can. There’s something funny about love. The more you love, the more love grows. It doesn’t run out. It multiplies. Love is a lot like Gremlins (the creature, not the car) in that way. Feed love, and love just keeps growing… … Read More
