On the docket…

Just got back from out of town. I’m still sick and have no voice. Here’s some stuff that I’ll be blogging about over the next few days: 1. I read 3 books over the last few days. 2 amazing. 1 good. Reviews forthcoming… 2. Spent a couple of days at Disney. These people never cease to amaze me. I learned 10 big lessons while I was there. 3. Just finished a run of 18 months of coaching. It has been amazing! I’ll share some big ideas about the process and my personal learnings. It’s great to be home!

Sunday stuff (Monday AM edition)

– today was tough for me. I was coughing and hacking through all 3 services. – what started out as a sore throat is now in my chest. I’m hating life right now – the services went well. I can’t express how glad I am that Spring break is over! – the band sounded great – I taught on Genesis 22 and how God wants to provide for us. – the response was great, which was a bit surprising for message on giving – left for Orlando right after church to spend some time with Carey and Mia. I’ve been … Read More

What it Takes…

Met with a great guy who wants to plant a church. We spent some time talking, but he asked me a question that I haven’t been able to shake. He asked, “What qualities are needed to be a successful church planter?” I thought it was a great question, so I thought I’d share my answer. (I purposely omitted all the stuff that’s been written about ad nauseam) #1 – Passion – you have to be excited about what/ where God has called you. If you aren’t excited, no one else is going to be. #2 – Hunger to Learn – … Read More

Best Part of Today…

It wasn’t great being sick today… But I got to watch the Red Sox opening day ceremonies as the players got their World Series rings – that was awesome! Seeing Bill Buckner get a standing ovation as he threw out the first pitch was amazing. He cried and so did I. But the highlight of the day was when Manny Ramirez tripled and without being prompted, my daughter Mia clapped! 14 months old and already rooting for the right team 🙂 I love being a dad!

Sick

I woke up this morning and couldn’t talk. My throat is killing me! So I went into the office for a couple of hours and then went home. But I’m still attending our staff meeting via ichat. I love technology… and chicken soup!

On the Move

Looking at my calendar, I’m going to be all over the place over the next few weeks. I’m going to be in Orlando, Tampa, and North Carolina in the next 2 1/2 weeks. Then I’ll be in Los Angeles in May. I’m really looking forward to be there. LA is one of the few places I’ve ever been to and said, “Yeah, I could easily live here” 🙂 I’m only missing 1 Sunday due to all of this travel and that’s for vacation while I’m in LA. I’m looking forward to hitting a few churches I’ve never been to. Maybe … Read More

Sunday Stuff…

– Services today went great. – We still felt the effects of Spring Break in our middle service, but the other services felt great. – I’m still getting used to teaching 3 times on Sunday. My throat was a little raw driving home today. – We had some technical issues in our first service, that Mark was somehow able to fix just before the bumper video started 🙂 – We showed a clip from the show “Dirty Jobs”. It was hilarious! – Taught on Psalm 23 today. Funny enough, I’ve never taught it before. It was great. I think people … Read More

How do I Know Who the Crazy People are?

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Carey and Mia came to the office to have lunch with me today and we went to a favorite place of mine. What I saw was puzzling: a guy taking to himself. Not too out of the ordinary, since everyone seems to have a bluetooth headset these days. But I couldn’t tell if he was using bluetooth or if one flew over the cuckoo’s nest. But it creates a problem: how do we know who the crazy people are? The ultra-sophisticated technology geeks and those that aren’t “all there” look the same to me. Here’s my solution: Treat everyone as … Read More

Best Reading of the 1st Quarter 2008

Bob FranquizBooks

I read 20 books in the 1st quarter. Some of it was great, and some of it wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on. But I thought I’d give what I felt were the highlights: 1. Smart Couples Finish Rich by David Bach 2. Writing Tools by Roy Clark 3. The Success Principles by Jack Canfield 4. Hire and Keep the Best People by Brian Tracy 5. The Aladdin Factor by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen Happy Reading!
