Last week I had breakfast with a good friend of mine and as always we came to some theological thing one of us has been trying to wrestle tot he ground. I walked away after 3 hours at Cracker Barrel thinking this is one of the most challenging conversations I’ve had in a while.
I need people like this in my life. People who I can throw out an idea with and we can go back and forth. People who are thinkers rather than just repeaters. People who are reading books that others find to be “too on the edge”. People that I can talk out loud to who won’t judge, but simply want to walk on the journey together and grow into all God wants us to be.
Too many times we think of spiritual growth as something that happens when the Pastor tells me stuff I’ve never heard. That’s part of it. But what furthers the growth is when I enter the conversation and add what God is showing me. There’s something special that takes place when we allow God’s Word to weave itself into the fabric of our lives.
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deut. 6:6-9)
This passage has been rockin’ my world as of late. So who’s rockin’ your world?
