I think our church has come to the conclusion that just about anything can happen at one of our services. A few weeks ago we had a buddy of ours, Prodigal Son, stop the worship and give us some freestyle rap, I’ve preached while making a hot fudge sundae, and I think people really liked when I threw bags of cotton candy into the crowd while I was teaching.
But today topped it all: The power went out. Yes, we blew out one of the surge protectors and at the very end of worship, all the power went out. But the best part is that we didn’t stop worshipping. Mark, our worship leader, kept the song going for another minute or two acapella and it was amazing! By the end, power was restored, he prayed and I walked up and gave the message. God allowed the power to go out at the perfect time just so HE could hear our voices alone. It was awesome! But the best part was that everyone said afterward, “So you guys planned the power going out, right? It was beautiful!” We said, “No.” But they didn’t believe us…
The moral of the story is if you seek to be creative on a consistent basis and things go haywire, people may think you planned it and God might do something great with it!
