Before becoming a Christian, I had only read one book in my life (an unauthorized biography on the life of Madonna – I bet you never pegged me as a material girl). But once I became a Christian at the age of 19, I got an insatiable thirst to grow in my faith. This took place because as a new believer, I didn't know anything about the faith. So I learned everything I could.
When I planted Calvary Fellowship in 2000, I didn't know anything about church planting. I know God had called me, but I was totally unprepared for this level of leadership. So I had to take my growth to another level to keep leading at a higher level.
Here's why I say all of this: don't stop growing. Your level of leadership will be determined by your "leadership lids' (to borrow a phrase from John Maxwell). We raise our "lids" through our personal growth.
So here's three ways to keep growing:
#1 – Read as much as you can – like this book 🙂
#2 – Listen to resources on church leadership on your iPod and in your car
#3 – Get into a coaching network where you can learn from another Pastor
By the way, I have 4 spots left in my new coaching network that's starting in late August.
