I’ve decided that it’s too hard to number the best books on church planting, so these next posts will officially be in no particular order. So the 2nd book I’d like to mention is “When God Builds a Church” by Bob Russell. The thing I really liked about this book is that Bob isn’t trying to tell you how to build a cookie cutter model of Southeast Christian. Instead, the book is simply the story of their church and the elements that he believes should be in every church. This is so refreshing because I’m totally sick of books on church that tell me exactly how to do every aspect of ministry. Just because something works in one location doesn’t mean it will work somewhere else. That’s why I like book that tend to talk along the lines of personal experience and general principles rather than hard and fast rules. I believe “When God Builds a Church” is a great read that lets the reader think for himself as to how to implement a ministry based on his location and culture. I had my whole staff read the book I liked it so much. There was some great practical stuff in the book that helped us as we started out. If you’ve read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts…
