I’m still wiped out from yesterday’s 11 year celebration/ extravaganza. But I wanted to share a few things I’ve learned in 11 years of ministry.

11.  Ministry hurts. If you’re thinned skinned or kind of wimpy, consider another line of work.

10. Proven character trumps potential every time. Violate this at your own risk.

9. Learning to pace myself is one of the best decisions I ever made. I’m running at a pace where I can serve for a lifetime.

8. Don’t force your wife into a mold. Let her serve where she feels gifted.

7. Without the right team, you’re never going to go anywhere. (blunt but true).

6. People need God’s Word. So preach it unashamedly.

5. Don’t sacrifice your family on the altar of ministry. So work hard when you’re in the office and don’t mess around. Then go home.

4. Deal with your issues. If you need counseling, don’t put it off. A lack of emotional and spiritual health will destroy your ministry.

3. Really study. Listen to many. Copy none. Find your own style. Don’t be an “echo”.

2. People don’t need a perfect Pastor, but they do need a faithful Pastor.

1. You can’t lead, teach, or live beyond your own relationship with God.

Bonus: Share what you have learned. Don’t make others reinvent the wheel. Be a church that teaches other churches.
