Your Church Should be like the Oakland A’s

Bob FranquizLeadership

Everyone knows that I’m from Boston, so I love the Red Sox. I literally cried like a little girl when they won the World Series in 2004.

But I will say that while the Sox are my team, I deeply respect the Oakland A’s. They have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball and yet they make the post-season regularly.

How do they do it? They know they couldn’t compete with the Yankees and Red Sox in regards to signing big named fee agents, so they decided to put all their effort into their farm system. This way they develop great players without having to pay them millions of dollars each year.

Here’s what I suggest: looking at your church like a baseball team. A baseball team isn’t just the 25 guys that make up the Major League team. There’s also a farm system that’s funneling young players to the big leagues.

I believe every position in your church needs to have a designation of:

Single A – entry level position

Double A – Overseeing a team within a ministry

Triple A – High capacity leader overseeing a ministry

Major Leagues – Staff Member with responsibility for that ministry

A healthy church is continually developing leaders at every level.

That’s why I’m leading a FREE webinar next week (September 13 & 14 @2PM EST) called, “Creating a Leadership Pipeline in your Church”.

In this 45-minute webinar, I’m going to show you how we’ve created a system for developing leaders at every level of our church.
