The Kingdom of Heaven

I went to see “The Kingdom of Heaven” after a nice helping of sushi last night. It was a great movie! It had a real “Gladiator” feel to it, but I didn’t mind because I love Gladiator as well. But the movie had a quote that I can’t get out of my mind. It’s towards the end of the movie and the army of Saladin is ready to take Jerusalem. Orlando Bloom’s character is listening to suggestions as to what they should do. The “Christian” Bishop says, “Convert to Islam…Repent later!” It got me thinking: The day we realize if we are truly committed to Jesus is when that faith is tested, not when we’re sitting in an air-conditioned church listening to great music and relevant teaching. You only really found out if you knew long division was when your 3rd grade teacher tested you. What I’ve learned is that you can’t have a testimony without tests. I think this will change our prayers, our hearts, and our perspective. This thought was reinforced by what I read today from the Bible as the apostles where being harassed because of their faith. “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.” (Acts 4:29) When I grow up, I want to be like them!
