I can hear again!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I lost my ipod headphones when I was in Orlando a couple of weeks ago. I used Carey’s a couple of times, but they kept falling out of my ears because they were too small for me. So I bought a pair at the Apple Store, which were too big for my ears (I know, this sounding like the story of the 3 bears). So I returned them and picked up a pair of Nike headphones, which sound good and have these hooks that go behind your ears in case I start doing summersaults (which isn’t going to happen – … Read More

Why Do Adults Act Like They’re 5 Years Old?

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I was picking up lunch today and the lady in front of me had apparently been waiting for a while, but by the time I walked in she was coming unglued waiting for her soup. She was saying, “Do you know how long I’ve been waiting just for a soup!!! What’s the problem?!” This was a grown woman that probably had kids in their early 20’s. Then the 18 year old waitress says, “I’m so sorry. I will get it for you right now.” As she said that, she gave the woman 2 Chocolate Chip Cookies. Once the woman got … Read More

No Human Available…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Man, I am having the worst time getting a human being on the phone today! “Thank you for calling. Please listen carefully as our menu options have recently changed…” Give me a break. If there’s a bank that will put a human being on the phone from the get-go, I’ll switch today! Technology is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master… I think I understand what John Conner was going through… It’s the rise of the machines!

Pleasant Surprises…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

My favorite thing in the world is when the door to my office opens and it’s Carey and Mia. We had lunch together. Carey took care of a few things she needed to for this weekend. Mia just made everyone in the office happier with her presence. I love being a dad!!!

The Jack La Lanne of the Bible

Bob FranquizUncategorized

“Now then, just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the LORD promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the LORD helping me, I … Read More

Contain Yourself!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I love the Container Store! There, I’ve said it! I am an organizational freak. I love things in their place. So when I walk into the Container Store, it’s like all of my organizational dreams coming true in one store. Anyway, I am amazed at how they communicate their vision through the simplest of things. Their bags say, “Contain yourself”. The tape they use to make sure storage bins will stay closed say, “Another contained customer”. Their gift cards say, “Who says 1 store can’t change your life?” They use every means to communicate their message. It’s got me thinking … Read More

Sandals Summer

Bob FranquizUncategorized

First, let me say that it is so hot here in Miami that I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself. Secondly, A/C is barely making things manageable. Third, to walk outside, even to get the mail in this heat is to invite a perspiration that doesn’t even feel natural. So what can I do? I have instituted ‘Sandals Summer’. This means I am wearing sandals every day to bear with the heat. Most who know me, know that I am not a huge fan of shoes where toes are exposed (I feel that defeats the purpose). But … Read More

Fortune Cookies

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Carey and I were having lunch at my favorite restaurant today (P.F. Chang’s), when we got our fortune cookies at the end of our meal and I noticed something interesting: fortune cookies aren’t what they used to be. What did they used to be? Fortunes. What are they now? Social commentaries and positive insights. Old school fortune: You will be a millionaire by year’s end New school fortune: Determination and hard work pay off When the server gives me the bill, which does he want me to believe, that I’m going to rich within a matter of months or telling … Read More

I think I’ll go to Boston…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I love Boston. It’s my hometown. When we got off the plane and were driving to my sister’s house, Carey said to me, “It must be nice every time you come back here.” I said, “It’s like putting on your favorite pair of jeans. They just feel right.” The weather is beautiful. All conversation is about the Red Sox no matter where you are. Dunkin’ Donuts coffee is freely flowing (We don’t use the S-word when talking about coffee around here). Being with my family has made me realize how much I miss them. It’s nice to be home…

I don’t feel so good…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Yesterday after church my throat started to hurt. By the time I woke up today, I felt terrible and I had no voice to speak of. Thankfully, Monday is my day off, so I have spent the entire day sleeping. To add insult to injury, I woke up just in time to watch the Red Sox get spanked by the Kansas City Royals. Yes, you read that correctly…the Royals. I think I feel worse emotionally watching this pathetic display of baseball. And I have no energy to yell at the TV. So I just have to sit and take it. … Read More
