I got a call that we made the front page of the Easter Edition of the Miami Herald!!!
I just got back from Publix and bought 2 copies of Sunday Early edition and there we were! Totally amazing!
Here’s what you have to understand: Miami has 2.5 million people and only about 6% go to church on a given Sunday. The city is spiritual, but not remotely Christian. So for a church make the front page is a miracle and favor from God.
The article was very well written. There’s 4 pictures of our church. One of Mark and the band; one of a couple in our church; one of people exiting the theatre; and one of yours truly!
We have never sought press. In fact, we tend to fly under the radar with the community projects we do. We don’t do it for the fan fare. We just try to serve.
But I felt they did a great job describing who we are and what we’re about. They did mention Emergent and the emerging church movement (which I don’t consider myself part of) in reference to reaching young people 18-35 (68% of our church falls into that age range). I think we’re all reaching the same age group, but that’s about it in similarities.
The article isn’t online yet. When it is, I’ll post it…
