I don’t want to talk about it!

They lost the game with 1 minute to go! I just can’t believe it. I was driving home from church Sunday night , checked my Treo and the score was 21-6. By the time I got home, the score was tied. UUUUGGGGGHHHH! Then to lose it with 1 minute left was just inexcusable. By the way, how many passes does Reche Caldwell have to drop before we stop throwing the ball to him? By the way #87, you just got a new nickname: Bill Buckner! How glorious would it have been for Tom Brady and the Pats to win their … Read More

Planters Arriving…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Had a great meeting this afternoon with Matt Mahaffey, a student Pastor from Indy that wants to plant a church in South Florida. Matt’s a sharp guy with a heart for this area. I’m glad he met with Travis, who’s getting it done in Homestead. Plus, Matt’s coming to the National New Church Conference in April and is going to check out my pre-conference workshop on portable churches. I love talking shop. I love hanging with guys that are taking steps of faith. I feel like I get built up whenever I’m around guys who want to lay it all … Read More

Portable Church Forum in Orlando

Bob FranquizChurch

The day I posted about canceling our Momentum conference, I was contacted by the guys from the National New Church Conference about hosting our roundtable discussion in Orlando as a pre-conference intensive. So that’s what we’re doing. On April 23-24, I’ll be leading a pre-conference intensive on the subject of portable churches. I am planning on sharing everything we were going to share at the conference into this time slot. So bring a notebook and be ready to write. We’re also going to be giving out a copy of my book to every attender, as well as a CD with … Read More

New Writing Projects

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I’ve been working on a couple of writing projects that I’m really excited about. These are more in-house books that we’re going to use with our church body to help disciple them. – Watermark: An explanation of Baptism – This is a pamphlet that I’ve written to people who want to be baptized. I want people to have an good understanding of what baptism is and I’m not planning on teaching 4 baptism messages a year. So I wrote this using the Watermark chapter from my Elements book, an introduction, and an FAQ about baptism to give people the information … Read More

TV Guest Star Aftershow Thoughts…

Bob FranquizChurch

Well, I got done with my first TV experience. I did this panel discussion on “Viewpoint” today and I think it went pretty well. It’s the first time I was led into a make-up room. It got a little weird when the guy powdered the top of my head so my impending baldness wouldn’t glare. But the discussion was good. There was 3 Ph.d’s and me. It was an odd feeling. All three of them were Catholic, the host was Episcopal, and then there was me. I felt a little out of place. The other 2 guys wore a suit, … Read More

Book Review: Simple Church

Bob FranquizBooks

A friend gave me a copy of Simple Church by Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger and it was a good read. I didn’t like it as much as 7 practices of Effective Ministry, as it was along the same lines. But if you’re looking for a second book to compliment what the Northpoint guys have written, this is a good one. But I love the moral of the book: simplify your process. This has been a common theme for me as of late in my reading. I think someone is trying to get a message through to me 🙂 I … Read More

TV Guest Star

Bob FranquizChurch

I got asked to be a guest on a show called, “Viewpoint” that airs on Channel 2. At first, I thought it was “The View” and I got really excited. But I’m honored to be asked to be on any show. I’m still waiting for 24 to call me so I can guest star as some guy that helps Jack Bauer kill a terrorist. That’s the height of being on TV. To say, “I helped Jack Bauer save the world!” We’ll be taping the “Viewpoint” show tomorrow. The topic? End Times Theology. So if anyone needs me, I’ll be reading … Read More

Change of Plans

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I was supposed to be at the Calvary Chapel Southeast Pastor’s Conference this week, but Carey’s Doctor informed us that she needs to be on bed rest for the next couple of weeks until Mia is born. This has changed my schedule considerably and it’s OK. While it’s always nice to hook up with my CC brothers, I have the privilege to serve my wife as I help out around the house. It’s also giving me some time to finish up Mia’s room (I’ll post pictures soon – It looks like something out of a catalog) So if you remember, … Read More

24

Tonight’s premiere of 24 – OMG!!!!! Jack is a beast! I was amazed when Jack went Lost Boys on that guy! Dr. Bashir as the pseudo bad guy was a good move. Wayne Palmer as president! Out of hand! The show reminded me why it’s the best show on TV!
