Odds and Ends

A Few Thoughts: – I love Scott’s post about how horrible the word “Neat” is. The word must be destroyed! – This game is absolutely awesome! It’s the kind of game the cast of The Office would come up with. – I played bass in our worship band on Sunday night. That was fun. It’s been a while. What’s funny is I talk about being in a band all the time (I had a record deal for crying out loud!) and yet people are still shocked that I know how to play an instrument. (No Milli Vanilli going on here) … Read More

Batting Clean-up

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Doug over at Desert Father is doing a cool series of posts about Church planting and he asked me and a few other guys a few questions about our story. Mine is the 4th, which means I’m batting clean-up (I need to break out my Manny Ramirez jersey). My interview is here for those interested…

4 Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive Book Review and a couple of Leadership Thoughts

Bob FranquizBooks

First, let me say that I love Patrick Lencioni’s books and The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive didn’t disappoint! What an easy, fantastic read! I love Pat’s fable at the beginning and then how he drops the bomb at the end with some explanation and challenges for the reader. Here’s the one idea that I what I walked away with (There were many, but here’s the big one for me): Be clear. Clear in the vision, clear in the communication of the vision, and clear in how others are communicating that vision in my absence and fulfilling the vision. … Read More

Another Cuban Restaurant!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I’ve been waiting for the Cuban restaurant near us to open for months and this week they finally did. Carey and I went last night and it was rockin’! Honestly, I don’t remember the last time we had service that was that friendly. We wanted to come back just to see the people we met! We actually called tonight to see if we could order some take-out and the place was so slammed they weren’t taking any more orders! Needless to say, it was great. This restaurant has a few locations, but as any 305’er would know, all La Carreta’s … Read More

Four…That’s right! Four!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I haven’t shaved all week. It has been glorious (besides Carey calling me “Grisley Adams”). But I noticed something this morning that I found disturbing. I have four gray hairs in my beard! This isn’t good… Here are the before and after shots: Before After

Confessions of a Pastor Book Review and some Personal Thoughts…

Bob FranquizBooks

I was very excited to read Craig Groeschel’s new book Confessions of a Pastor. I loved Chazown and was eager to read his latest release. It wasn’t as good as Chazown, but it was still good. I was under the impression that the book was geared towards Pastors, which it wasn’t, but there was still enough great stuff to keep me interested. What I do love about the book is the premise: dropping the pose and being real with God and others. One of things I see to often is people becoming Christians and getting more fake than real. Recent … Read More

Our Iceberg is Melting Book Review

Bob FranquizBooks

2 friends of mine recommended Our Iceberg is Melting by John Kotter and I loved it! Their story of a penguin colony that need to change to survive is charming and insightful. They lay out 8 steps for effective change. But here’s what they shared that I thought was most important: Change is emotional. If you’re a leader who has tried to change anything, then you know this is the truth. Lay out all the facts you want, share all the Bible verses you want, but at the end of the day, change is emotional. It’s why we know things … Read More

Famous People and Me

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Chris had a cool post about famous people he’s met. So I thought I’d steal the idea and post something about some of the famous peeps I’ve met in my travels. Here are my top 3 (in no order): – President Jimmy Carter (This was awesome, because I met him at Disney World. I had just gotten out of the Phil-har-magic show and I was walking over to the restroom and a buddy of mine spotted him. I walked up to him and asked if I could take a picture with him. He must have had 10 Secret Service guys … Read More
