Leaders

Bob FranquizChurch

I had an amazing meeting with our elders and deacons last night. I wish I could tell you that I have championed the cause of developing our leaders, but unfortunately I have not…until now. Last night we charted a course that involved intentional discipleship and development of current and future leaders. The truth is, in any growing church, the Pastor has to stop only ministering to people and has to begin ministering through people. This requires time on my part, but I am looking forward to the challenge. We have an amazing group of leaders and last night I remembered … Read More

Sermon Chili

Bob FranquizTeaching

I was going through my message files and I found 9 messages that are 1/2 written. It looks pretty good, but I guess I didn’t use it because I went in another direction. I don’t want to let anything go to waste that could make a difference in someone’s life, so I think at some point I’m going to make some sermon chili. Chili is the blending of a bunch of stuff that had a different use but put together make a great meal. So I’m going to look through this stuff and see if some it fits together… Some … Read More

Book Review: The Secret Message of Jesus

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I just finished “The Secret Message of Jesus” by Brian McLaren and it was fantastic! The purpose of the book is to explore what is the Gospel that Jesus preached and what it the kingdom of God. I am a big fan of Brian’s writings. I believe that he is certainly one of the best writers in the church today. His style is engaging, his thoughts are profound, and his topics are courageous. I literally underlined 60% of the sentences in this book. My favorite aspects of the book were his exploration into the political world that Jesus was born … Read More

The coolest gift ever!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I walked into the office this morning and found a square package sitting on my desk. I opened it and it was an autographed baseball signed by #33 Jason Varitek, captain of the Boston Red Sox. My buddy Tadd was kind enough to track Jason down (who attends his church by the way) and get him to autograph a baseball for me. Anyway, Tadd you’re awesome! Thank you so much for this great gift!

Bob FranquizChurch

Those that know me, know that I’m a huge Erwin McManus fan.  I’ve read each of his books at least twice!  But today I signed up for the Origins conference in LA in May.  I’m really excited about seeing what they are doing there, getting some great ideas, and of course hanging in Los Angeles for a couple of days isn’t bad either!

Thoughts on Publishing… (Part 2)

Bob FranquizUncategorized

This is part 2 of a post that I wrote a week ago. You may want to read part one before reading this. If you don’t, I won’t be hurt. When it comes to publishing, you’ve got basically 2 options: Self publish or shop your manuscript. Both have advantages and disadvantages. So I’ll list some of them and let you make your own decision: Advantages to shopping your manuscript and publishing through a traditional publisher: #1 – There is a perceived sense of being “Legit” when you have major publisher’s logo on the back of your book. #2 – You … Read More

New Bloggers…Kind of…

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Well, they actually aren’t new bloggers. They are just new to my “cool blogs” section. I need to change that name. Can someone help me with a new name for that section of my blog? Here are a few people I’ve added. I’m sure many of you know about these guys. For the six of you that don’t, then you’re in for a treat. Steve McCoy – Steve is a fellow American Idol lover (that just sounded weird!) and keep me current on all the happenings of Calvinists throughout America. Mark Driscoll – Pastor of a cool church that’s modeling … Read More
