It’s that time of year again…

Bob FranquizChurch

I’m a huge believer in budgeting.  Not only personally, but for church as well.  Gary’s post is so true that in the first year you can’t really set a budget because there’s no pattern to work from.  But after the first 12-18 months you may be able to start considering budgeting in a little more concrete fashion since you will be able to see some trends forming in your church.  At our last staff meeting, our administrator handed out a P/L sheet for each ministry and a set of guidelines for preparing a budget (If you think this might be … Read More

Why is a Pastor’s life so weird?

Bob FranquizUncategorized

I’ve come to the conclusion that Pastors live weird lives.  Why do I say this?  Because most of the Pastors I know have weird stuff happen to them all the time.  I feel like Ezekiel at times.  God had that poor guy go through so much crazy stuff simply to illustrate what God was going to do.  That’s what happens to us as well.  I find that every time I’m preparing a message and I can’t find a good way to illustrate something, God always helps me out by allowing me to get into some kind of bizzare situation.  That’s … Read More

Best Communicators We’ve Never heard of…

Bob FranquizTeaching

I always enjoy reading Perry Noble’s blog and I enjoyed his post from the other day about his favorite communicators.  Not surprisingly, his favorite communicators are mine as well.  But it got me thinking, "Everyone has heard of Rob Bell, Andy Stanley, Bill Hybels, and Erwin McManus.  But who is in the next tier that we haven’t heard of but should know about.  Who are the guys that we will be hearing about in a couple of years that are doing great things, they just haven’t hit a national platform yet?  Anyone have some suggestions?

Love Story Begins…

Bob FranquizChurch

Today we kicked off a new series called "Love Story".  I’m teaching through the book of Ruth.  The whole service was great.  I felt great about the message (You can listen to it here if you want).  The drama we did was hilarious.  The band played "One" by U2 (I love that song).  There were several people who prayed to receive Jesus and start a relationship with Him.  It was an awesome Sunday.

Church Planter or Church Planted?

Bob FranquizUncategorized

John over at planterblogs.com (which is a really cool concept by the way) asked me a question about when a church ceases to be a church plant and just becomes a church.  I’ve blogged about this before, but I want to offer a new idea to the mix and see if I’m a heretic or not.  Here’s my latest theory:  Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, Greg Laurie, etc… – all of these guys planted their churches that are now 30 years old and I think we can agree that their churches are no longer church plants.  They are established ministries that … Read More

Birthday Girl!

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Today is Carey’s Birthday (That’s my wife for those just joining us)!  She would never make a big deal out of it, but if you get a chance, could you go on her blog and wish her a happy birthday.  I would appreciate it.  I love you sweetheart!

Losing a Staff Member

Bob FranquizChurch

Yesterday was Jason’s last day.  He has served in many capacities over the last 5 years, most recently being our children’s Pastor.  Jason, John Solaroli (Another one of our Pastors), and I started this church just over 5 years ago together.  We had no idea what we were doing.  None of us had ever read a book on church planting (to our shame), but God was gracious and we have seen Him work in amazing ways in us and through us.  But it was really weird saying goodbye yesterday.  I felt as though it was the end of an era.  … Read More

A new friend…the ipod video

Bob FranquizUncategorized

Last night I took all my birthday money and the gift certificates that some friends got me and I went to the Apple store and got the new ipod video. It is totally amazing! I haven’t downloaded a video yet, but I’m hoping to do so shortly. I bought the 30 gig because it’s not bulky like the 60 gig. This thing rules! I sold my old ipod to a new church planter in our area, so I’ve been without one for a couple of weeks. But now a new friend has arrived. Life is good…
